Elena woke up and looked at the clock. It was ten in the morning. She tried to get up but found that her whole body was aching. She fell on her bed. Mrs. Lavinia came in and following her was a young man with a briefcase. He had raven hair and said walnut eyes. He smiled at Elena.
"How are you doing?" he asked, taking out his stethoscope. Then he put it on Elena and listened to her heartbeat. Then he took out a thermometer from his briefcase.
"I'm doing alright," Elena managed to say in a horse voice. Then she coughed.
"Well, you are anything but that," said the doctor smiling, Open your mouth now, please."
Elena opened her mouth and the doctor put in the thermometer and waited. Then he took it out and looked at it closely.
"You are having a temperature. I don't think it will turn out to be anything serious. But be safe than sorry said the doctor. Eat well and get plenty of rest!" he said and then took a packet of sweets and left it on the bedside table. "Something to cheer you up!" he said winking.
"Thank you," Elena mange to say as the doctor packed in his stethoscope and thermometer into his briefcase.
"Like I said, Mrs. Lavinia, give her some healthy food like chicken soup and plenty of vegetables. She will be okay in no time! You'll see!"
"Well, thank you Dr Daniel," said Mrs. Lavenia leading him out of Elena's room.
"I wonder how many days I have to stay in bed!" thought Elena miserably. "I hope I can get out soon!"
Mrs. Lavinia came into the room carrying a newspaper. Elena had been writing her diary. She hadn't had much to write about. She had written a poem about a chicken and his friend the duckling. She thought it was an awfully silly poem. She quickly put it aside.
"What have you been doing, Elena?" asked Mrs. Lavenia sitting down on the chair by her little bedside table.
"Nothing much, I have been writing my diary. She made up her mind to never mention about the silly poem.
"Well, don't exert yourself too much," said Mrs. Lavenia outside the window. It's a lovely day. Quite sunny. Do you want me to open the window?"
"Yes, please!" said Elena, who had been wanting to ask her aunt to do so.
Mrs. Lavenia opened the window. A warm breeze entered the room. Elena breathed in. It was all green outside. The cherry trees were in blossom and the air was heavy with the smell of cherry flowers.
Elena looked and saw the trees dancing in the breeze. She turned to aunt Lavinia and saw that she had a paper in her hands.
"Could I take a look at the newspaper?" asked Elena, who thought that perhaps she might find something interesting.
"Yeah, sure, why not" answered her aunt and held out the newspaper to Elena.
Elena thanked her aunt and took it. Mrs. Lavenia said, "I've got to go and check on the gardener and see what he is up to."
She left and Elena started going through the newspaper. There were so many things there but she had only got the newspaper with the idea of looking at the photographs and pictures.
Then while she was turning the pages, she came to a notice that said, 'WANTED'
There was a picture of a man wearing sunglasses. Elena paused. She thought. "I'm sure I've seen this man somewhere!" she told herself while she stared at the picture. Then suddenly, she realized where she had seen this man before.
"Of course, I saw him by the stones!" said Elena, finally remembering.
She read the article and found out that the man was a notorious smuggler of valuable things.
