Xu Kai: Awkward

Everyone starts leaving and the nurses come in the room. I say thank you to the doctor and let the nurses do their job. I sit at an arm chair at the farthest corner from the bed. I want to let the nurses do their job as best as possible, so I don't want to be a bother or distraction.

They give her a few pillows, which she scowls at.

Does she want MORE pillows. This isn't a hotel!

I keep on watching her give all the nurses at least 100 scowls before they all finally leave her alone.

As the last nurse leaves, I stand up and bow as a thank you. As soon as she closes the door, I feel excitement and dread at the same time.

Is it really possible to feel both of these emotions at the same time?

I walk towards the bed and sit on a chair next to the bed. I don't dare look at her, instead I just rest my head on the window. Eventually, of course, she decides to break the awkward silence.

"So, umm, Mr. Xu, how's it going?..." Both of us don't really know what to say. I look at her and our eyes immediately meet. She looks at me expectantly, waiting for an answer. Some type of explanation.

"I'm... good I guess." I shrug and continue, "About what happened toda-" She cuts me off by lifting up her hand again (🤚).

Why does she do that? And why did I stop talking? I should've kept on going so that way she understands that's not how you treat people!

"Whatever I have, it's probably something curable. I'm fine and will probably be out of here in no time. Now. IS THIS REALLY THE ROOM MY DAD GOT ME?!?!? He could've given me a fancier one! Oh! And also more welcoming. I don't like hospitals..."

Before she said that, I was just really startled and wanted to yell back, but...

Why is she scared of hospitals?

"Well, I can make it welcoming! Here, take a nice nap like a good girl, and when you wake up, you'll be in paradise!" I'm surprised by my own words.

What am I thinking???

"Ok I guess! BUT IT BETTER LOOK GOOD!!!" She yells at me as I run out the room.

I hear the nurses running to the room as she also yells, "SOMEBODY CLOSE THE DOOR!"

Oops- my bad!

I chuckle and run out of the hospital. But then I feel bad for the nurses.

They had to close the door, but before that, they probably had to receive a mean scolding from Miss Xiao.

After I find a store where they sell decorations, I look around for beautiful pink ones. She seemed to really love the pink room we gave her. After all, her father knows her best and he told us that she LOVES pink.

I find a beautiful big pink bow.

It looks like one you would wear for a wedding. A wedding...

Suddenly, I snap out of my dream and into reality.

I've got to stop being all lovey dovey all the time.

I love romance, and as far as I know, all my friends think I'm weird because of that. Most of my friends love fighting, or wrestling, or boxing, or sports! Typical guys' stuff that I also love, but not as much as ROMANCE.

"Excuse me?" I hear someone say in broken Chinese.

"Yes?"

"Hello... I'm Bei Weiwei! I wonder... you know... English?" So she is an English speaker! Like Miss Xiao. I smile and nod.

"Hi! My name is Xu Kai. It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Bei! I'm actually not that fluent in English, but maybe my friend could help you. She is in the hospital, and I'm trying to decorate her room. Would you help me choose decorations you think would suit for a girl that loves the color pink?" At first she looked amused that I knew English. Then, she looked confused when I said I wasn't fluent. But then she smiled when I asked her for help.

"Sure! I'll help you! Is your friend at the nearby hospital here?" She points in the direction of the hospital I just came from.

"Yes that's one! Thanks for helping me out!" I say as I turn around again to keep on looking for stuff, she suddenly stops me.

"Is she the girlish type?"

I look at her puzzled for a moment. "I mean, she loves pink, what does that have to do with her being... girlish?"

"I'm sorry, I don't always choose my words well. What I'm trying to say is, super girlish? Everything you bought her is PINK!"

I look at my cart. It does look a little too pink, to be honest. Then I look back at her.

"Sooo, do you suggest I buy other colors too?"

She smiles as she see I got the message. I look around and find stuff from different colors that compliment the color pink.

I find her light bluish balloons, fake white flowers, and even small, little light blue and white bows that you can attach to curtains.

I look back at the big bow. I decide to keep it, knowing very well that the bow is going to be the big show stopper!

I go ahead and pay all the things I put in my cart. As I wait for Miss Bei to pay her stuff, I hear a very quiet ringing.

It's my phone! But who is calling me right now?

As I look at the number, it's an unknown number. I answer and immediately regret it.

"I already took a nap. YOU PROMISED YOU'D BE HERE BY NOW!!!"

"Miss Xiao! Calm down, I've got a tiny inconvenience, but I'm paying for the decorations right now. I also met someone that I'd like to introduce to you. So you have got to look presentable when I come back!"

I can hear someone moving, and then she hangs up.

She must be so shaken up and wondering who I'm going to introduce her to! Haha!

I see Miss Bei finish paying. "Is that all Miss Bei?"

"Yes Mr. Xu! But please, call me Weiwei!" She smiles so widely so I just nod. Not a single girl in my life has ever approached me and smiled like this at me.

"Then please, you call me Kai."

She nods and we walk together towards the hospital.

The guy I like has a girlfriend. I decided to try to move on so that way he can be happy with his girlfriend. Im not the type to try to break up couples for my benefit, so I'll let them be. I cried for hours, but as soon as I listened to his music (he'sa rapper), I felt so much more better. His voice definitely made me calm down, I won't cry now 🥲
