"Damn this nice, you payin' for all this on yo' own?" Brooklyn asked Mekhi, looking around the apartment.
"Yeah, been savin' up."
Brooklyn was visiting her friend Mekhi, who she had known for years. Their mothers were roommates in college so they practically grew up together.
Brooklyn sat down on the couch, "Doin' what?"
Mekhi smacked his teeth, "Why you worryin' bout all that."
"I mean, considerin' you got expelled, I'm just surprised."
"Yo' pops told you that?"
Brooklyn shrugged, "Maybe."
"You tol' him you was comin' ova here?"
Brooklyn shook her head, "He don't needa know everywhere I be."
Mekhi sat down on the couch next to her, "Shit, I guess," he looked at Brooklyn, "You still fuckin' wit' that nigga?"
"Nope, we broke up before I moved down here."
"Why?"
Brooklyn rolled her eyes, "Why does it matter?"
"Shit I'm tryn' catch up, you'on be checkin' up on a nigga no more."
"I've been busy," she leaned back on the couch, "I finished wit' school tho, took some classes ova' the summer so I can finish a semester early."
"Should've known, yo' ass always been a geek," he checked his phone, "You goin' to college?"
Brooklyn shrugged, "I got accepted to some, but ion' know yet. Might take a gap year."
"Why?"
"Ion' even know what I want to do yet, I've been doin' hair more, think I want to go to cosmetology school."
"Shit, at least you got somethin' figured out."
"I'm still thinkin' bout it though," she sighed, "What yo' mom think bout you gettin' expelled."
