"I thought Gemma White was the last president. Her photo's the last one in the gallery," mused Acacia. Her phone buzzed beneath her but she ignored it and hoped that Ryder didn't hear it. Ryder nodded and smiled like he was patronising a child.

"No honey, the Seniors picked which presidents to put up there."

Acacia gasped, "they knew about the passage?"

"No, not these ones anyway. The first seniors of Acacia were similar to presidents, far different to the ones that govern now. Those ones knew about the presidential passage."

Acacia nodded and ran her fingers through her hair, she thought of what she'd been told. She grimaced and sat up. From what Acacia heard, Ryder and the others seemed like the good guys. Sure they kidnapped her but it was to save the whole of Acacia. Ryder noticed her move and his eyes focused icily on the phone, still warm from the call earlier. His eyes snapped to Acacia's hand and swore under his breath. "Give me your hand," he ordered.

"I- what?"

He swore again and grabbed her hand roughly. "You didn't take the ring off? Who the hell did you call?"

Acacia whimpered and slid the band off her finger. She felt the presence of cold air on her finger for the first time in ten years. Already she missed the feeling of the White strip, vibrating on her finger. But she kept that hidden and lowered her head in submission. "The police," she whispered. Ryder's eyes filled with hurt.

"We are risking everything for you! We could die! But we're taking that risk for you! So you can save the rest of us. Stay in here, don't move," he yelled. No anger entered his voice, only betrayal and pain. Acacia hung her head, already regretting her decision. "Don't leave this room."

Ryder strode out of the room, yelling preparations to hide the secret bunker. A stray tear slipped down her cheek. She wiped it away with a frown. I will fix this, she thought and placed her piercing gaze on the ring. It say unmoving on the table and Acacia knew that no matter what they did, the S.G (second government) would not be able to hide from technology. The ring had a tracker inside it.

They were all doomed.

But Acacia didn't want to be locked up for the rest of her life. The rings were flimsy, they needed to be replaced all the time. They were constantly being snapped, lost and in need of replacement. She watched it sitting there, letting the police track it down. They will find them with it working and operational.

So she did the logical thing anyone could think of.

Acacia crushed the ring beneath her foot. Watching her past drift away. The wind carried it away until it disappeared from sight.

She let tears fall freely.

She knew she just signed her fate.

She was going to help Ryder fulfil the prophecy.

HEY GUYS!
If you don't get why Acacia was so upset over destroying her ring, she is sad because it was all she had left of her old home before she was taken to the bunker.
