in the middle of the night, a boy sat up dripping in sweat waking up from his latest nightmare, he sat on the end of his bed looking at the ground with his head in his hands. he slowly rose from the bed careful not to wake his sleeping roommates as he quietly leaves the dorm.
making his way out of the common room he pauses at the giant window looking into the black lake, he stood there just watching the fish and creatures swim around with envy mixing in his grey eyes. he thought about how easy it must be for the creatures, how simple their lives could be.. how easy his could be if he was born in a different time.
but he knew that was just a fantasy.
he looked down as he stuffed his hands in his pocket and began walking out of the common room, he made it to the entry before he stopped, hearing giggling on the other side followed by hushing noises, curiosity got the best of him as he opened the passage coming, looking around he sees nothing and no one.
he blames it on his lack of sleep as he walked away not noticing the many pairs of feet squashed together just a few feet away from him, "well that was easy" whispered one of the voices under the cloak.
they started making their way into the slytherin dorms as one of the people stopped, looking at where his younger brother just turned the corner with regret and shame, both brothers miss each other dearly but they both know its for the best that the don't speak.
the older brother gets called into the room, picking up the bag of prank supplies he followed the hushed voices urging him to follow quietly.
the younger brother on the other hand was making his way up the astronomy tower, pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and placing one in his mouth, he made it to the top just now realising he forgot his wand.
silently cursing himself he placed the item back in his pocket, he leaned against the wall slowly sinking to the ground.
he started fidgeting with the silver ring on his finger, slightly tempted to toss it and run away where no one can find him, but he knows better, he knows theres no where he can go where he cant be found.
he knows that of he left there will be people searching for him, not because they care, but merely because they need his family name and loyalty.
well that's not entirely true.
he jumped as he heard a giggling girl coming up the stairs along with a laughing boy, the boy smiled, not even having to look up to know who it was, the only two people who truly care about him and quite frankly the only people he would do anything for.
"alright there black?" said the boy with sandy blonde hair with a thick British accent.
"never better rosier" he said looking up at the two kids in front of him.
we're just kids...
"can you believe it.. only next year we get recruited.." said the blonde girl now sitting down next to the boy laying a head on his shoulder while the blonde boy is moves over to lean against the railing with a sigh.
"i know.. its terrifying is it not?" he doesn't even need to look at them to know his friends agree.
"it doesn't matter how scary it is.. we don't have a choice.. its either get recruited, or get hunted for the rest of our lives.." the girl has a blank look on her face as a tear slowly trickles down her cheek..
the group doesn't say much else as they all stand to lean against the railing.. looking up at the stars, they feel at peace.
the three teens where terrified of their future, of what's to come of it.. but they all had a silent agreement that no matter what.. they stick together.. they help each other.. and they love each other.
they know that of one goes down, they all go down together.
