I heard the pitter patter of light feet make their way towards my doorway. I rolled over, facing towards the doorway as I saw the door handle open.
What I wasn't expecting was to see a teary face stained, while Luca held the door open for little Chiara. "What's wrong?" I questioned, sitting up right in bed. Chiara then ran towards my bed, tears still running down her face as she tried to climb up but failed.
I could hear the sobs as she couldn't quiet get up the bed, so Luca helped her up, as she practically lunged at me, wrapping her hands around the back of my neck as she tried to clutch onto something, but as I didn't have a shirt on, she grabbed onto a little bit of my hair.
Her little feet were standing on my thighs as it seemed as though she was trying to get higher as they were pushing on my legs. I ran a soothing hand down her back, trying to get her breathing to slow down and make her body calm down.
"What's wrong?" I asked again, noticing Luca still standing in the empty space of my room. It was unlike him to be awake at this hour.
"I was actually studying for once when I heard rapid knocking on my door. I opened the door, and she was sobbing and kept repeating 'Leo. Leo' so I brought her to you. I just supposed she had a nightmare or something" I couldn't believe what I heard.
Luca was actually being productive and studying! I just have to hope that his exam isn't tomorrow morning as we will all have to deal with a grumpy Luca.
"Ok. Go back to your studying" I muttered, pulling her body closer to mine. "Night" I head him whisper before the door was shut.
Chiara had slowed her breathing down and her feet weren't moving as much as they were before. I just have to hope that she didn't injure her ribs any further as they were only just getting better. She hadn't said anything about them hurting, so I just have to hope.
"What's wrong?" I questioned her, my voice quiet and unlike it usually was. Maybe Chiara was actually putting our lives back into some sort of order. "n-nightmare-e" she stuttered, not pulling her head away from the crook of my neck.
I felt the tears dripping onto my bare shoulder, but I didn't mind at all. I was just glad that she had felt comfortable enough to try and find one of us. I was surprised that she didn't want Enzo.
"Ok. Are your ribs or anything hurting?" I think it would be best to try and stem away from talking about her nightmare, as it seems to have given her quiet the fright. I hadn't ever dealt with anything this bad.
"Mhm" she mumbled, squirming a little as she said it. Maybe she was hurting but never mentioned anything, rather not wanting to bother us anymore with her problems.
But she was our little sister after all, and she meant the world to me at this point.
So, I pulled her down a little, which caused her to start clawing at my neck once again, but I held her firmly, making sure not to put anymore pressure on her ribs as I stood up.
