Brooke's pov
After school Maddie and I headed to the national gymnastics studio. I was so nervous, but I couldn't show it. We arrived and started stretching. We were probably the youngest there. All the girls looked really skilled. I could tell Maddie was nervous because she took a year off and she was the youngest.
"Hey don't worry you got this." I whispered to Maddie
"Alright girls we're going to do some solo auditions I want you to pull out everything you have i'll give you a couple minutes to think about it then we'll get started." The coach said
I continued stretching.
"So which signature trick do you want?" Maddie said
"Well I think personally you're much better at the back tuck needle front layout then I am so you should take it." I said
"Ok so you'll take the needle leg stretch." Maddie said
"Yup." I said
"Alright girls were going to start may we please have Laura Phipps to the floor." The coach said. A girl who looked around 15 or 16 came out and did these absolutely amazing routine I couldn't even believe it. I just tried to focus on mine but I couldn't.
"Alright great job Laura. Now everyone remember we need 8 gymnasts so give it everything you got. Alright next is Aliannah Lee." The coach said
This girl was someone I actually knew and was friends with. She went to my old gymnastics studio but she left last year. She's definitely improved a lot.
"Alright next is Maddie Ziegler." The coach said. Maddie looked extremely nervous but when the music started you'd never be able to tell. She started off with the signature trick and everyone looked amazed. She continued by doing a side arial and then did a split jump ending with a handstand.
"Great job. Next is Brooke Hyland." The coach said. I walked into the right corner of the floor. I could feel my heart beating. The music started I did a front arial into a side arial then did three round offs into a backtuck. I did a handstand and walked to the center to do my signature trick. I ended in a needle.
"Great job." The coach said
Maddie and I just stood and watched the competition and I knew it would be difficult.
"Alright well thank you Ladies I'll be right back with my decision." The coach said.
Maddie and I stood there talking. When all of the sudden I heard someone tap my shoulder.
"Hey do you remember me?" A girl who was short and had big brown eyes asked me.
"Aren't you Mackenzie." I said
"Yeah I just moved back I had no idea you were interested in gymnastics. Oh and by the way in your side arial your left knee was bent. Oh and your back tuck was really low aim a little higher anyways see you later." Mackenzie said and walked away.
"Wow that was kinda rude and uncalled for." Maddie said
"Yeah but whatever she's probably just trying to help." I replied trying to be positive
"Alright girls this is the team if you hear your name stand up. Ok so the girls on the team are Aliannah Lee, Taylor Smith, Laura Phipps, Emma Jackson, Brooke Hyland, Mackenzie Clark, Lina Scott and Maddie Ziegler. Congratulations girls." The coach said. She handed us each a form for our parents to sign. Mackenzie came over and gave us a hug.
"See you guys later and good luck." She said
