just this once

chapter nine

after talking for hours it was starting to get dark out so i asked Landon to drive me home. " sure, but if you dont mind can we make a quick stop at my house on the way?" he asked "sure!" i said. i guess i was kind of eager to see what his house looked like. i knew that he was well for money but i wasnt expecting anything huge...

WOW! boy was i wrong. when we arrived at his house i was stunned by the emmense building. it was a 3 story house with huge gleaming white pillars at the front. a huge staircase led up to the front door wich was huge! i didnt realize i was staring but Landon must have becasue he chuckled and walked around to open my door. as i entered his mansion of a house i realized i tooked A LOT bigger from the inside. it was a lot to take in at once considering i lived in a nieghbourhood where the houses were as big as his garage! 

"follow me" he said, and led me up a beautiful waxed staircase that was kind of slippery! he walked into a room and told me too wait in the hallway. i didnt want to be nosey so i stayed put and tried to resist looking in any of the other doors in the hallway. just as i was getting impatiant a girl emerged from the door across from me and stopped in her tracks. 

"who are you?" she asked, looking at me like i was some kind of serial killer that broke into her house. 

"umm, i guess im Landons friend?" i said more of a question then an statement. "oh ok!" she said looking relived. "im Ava Penn, Landons twin sister" woah he didnt say anything to me about her. she was very pretty with shoulder length brown curly hair and big brown eyes just like Landon's. they really did look identical.

"nice to meet you Ava." i said. then Landon walked out of his room with a pissed off look in his face. 

"what's up?" Ava asked him. "i lost my iphone, mom's going to kill me, that was the third one this month!" he said angrily. oh crap! i forgot that i still had his phone.no wwhat am i going to do, if i just handed to him he migth ask if i looked at it. wich i tottaly did of course! uurgghh. maybe i could divert him to make him think it's somewhere different.

"um i think i saw and iphone by the changeroom door's, could you have dropped it after gym?" i said trying to sound like i actually had a clue about what i was saying.

"Oh my gosh! Abby your a life saver. the last time i had it was gym so that was probably it!" he said "will you please come back with me to the school to get it?" he asked looking at me with his beautiful brown eyes, how could i say no to that! i checked my watch and it was only 9:00 so i guess i could make an dexcuse to my mom. my sister can help bail me out i always do that for her.

"sure!" i said with a smile. he took my hand again and stepped closer to me, i nearly fainted from being so close to him. why does he do that to me? i barely even know the guy. we then walked hand in hand back to his car. i turned behind me to wavebye to Ava, she seemed really nice maybe i will see her at school or something.

upon arriving at the school i suddenly got very nervous. how is he going to fin dhis phone if i still have it in my pocket! im so stupid why didnt i think this through! we walked around the school to the track and across it to the back door. (it was also the door to the change rooms) he bent down and started to search the grass. i pretended to do the same but even if there was a phone in the grass i would be extremely hard to find considering it was now pitch black outside. 

i decide the best way to do this was casually take it out of my pocket and pretend i found it. i turned around to make he was looking and i slipped the phone out of my pocket and onto the grass. i proceeded to look around to make it less obvious."i found it!" i shouted, looking excited.

"seriously! oh my gosh Abbs your the best!" he said and pulled me into a tight hug. did he just give me a nickname? I really couldn't breathe because his massive muscular arms were squishing the life out of me, although i really didnt mind considering his every touch felt like and electric shock to the heart. i was really enjoying myself untill the picture on his phone came flooding back to me. why!! uuggh this is ruining everything! i pulled back from the hug looking kind of shy. i couldnt deal with this right now! how did i even get so caugth up in this boy. 

i asked him to take me home andwhen we got to my house all the windows were dark, they must be sleeping. i checked my watch and it was 10:30! wow i have been with Landon for 7 and a half hours! it seemed like just a few minutes. everything just flowed so easily with him. but i couldnt let myself get carried away. he was a player i could tell. i should have listend to my sister, i should never have talked to him again. i was just setting myself up for rejection.

i couldnt make eye contact with him, i thanked him for the ride home and was about to get out of the car when his arm shot forward and stopped me. he took hold of my face with both his hands, i could tell he was trying to be very careful not to hurt me. he looked me straight in th eyes and i just couldnt bring myself to look away. his eyes were just so inviting and warm. "whats wrong abbs?" he asked looking at me with deep concern.

"nothing.." i said, but even i wasn't convincing myself.

"abby i can tell something is wrong, now eaither you tell me or i will make you tell me." he stated confidently.

"is that a threat!" i asked faking being hurt.

"i can be if you dont tell me." he said

"fine, it's just that... i mean... umm... i.... i kind of... if you have a girlfriend then why are you spending so much time with me, i mean if your not interested in me then why dont you just stop talking to me, i mean i dont need some player leading me on." i said, i actually sounded more confident then i felt.

"i dont have a girlfriend Abby." Landon said.

"then what about the screen saver on your phone..." crap i basically just told him that i had his phone all along and looked through it! ughh im so stupid!

"oh.." he said "you saw that"

"yeah" i said, and then i told him about how i found the phone in the grass and saw the picture on it. 

"you see Abby  i used to have a girlfriend but she cheated on me and i cant stand her now! we took that picture about a month ago and i guess i was just to lazy to change it. and i promise that im not just leading you on, i would never spend this much time with someone i dont care about. and just to prove it to you, smile." he said and held up his phone to take a picture of us. he set it as his background on his screen and then he asked to see my phone.

"why do you need to see my phone?" i asked sligthly confused.

"well it turns out i cant really have an awsome girl as my screen saver but not have her number in my phone." he said with a smirk. awwee he actually wants my number! eekkk. 

we said goodbye and he didnt even make a move to kiss me! after all the stuff that went down tonight it was overall one of my favourite nights ever, mostly because i got to spend it with Landon. i dont exactly know what me and him are but all that matters is that he actually cares about me and i definitly care about him. i will have to tell Mandy everything tomorrow.
