{Previously: And even though you had spent hours in the arms of the man you loved, it felt like mere seconds compared to what was ahead of you.}

The three of you stood in front of the gates leading to the trains.

Bucky smiled, "Don't do anything stupid 'till I get back."

"How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you," Steve said smiling.

Bucky pulled his best friend in for a hug and whispered, "Take care of her, punk."

Steve nodded with a faint smile, "I will, jerk."

You stood there with glossy eyes.

Bucky smiled down at you wistfully, "You'll be alright without me, doll."

He wrapped his arms around you and you buried your face into his shoulder to hide your tears.

Bucky pulled away from the hug, still close to you, and stared into your eyes. His gaze held so much promise.

You couldn't look away and before you knew what was happening, his lips were on yours. The kiss was full of the words neither of you had ever spoken.

It was passionate and longing, and you would've kissed him forever if it weren't for the lack of oxygen.

His lips drifted away from yours as he came up for air.

Steve stood by in silence, looking down.

Bucky's heart desired to stay with you. Safe in your embrace...but his head knew that it was time to go.

He walked off into the busy crowd and the man you had gotten to know as one of your best friends and the person you'd fallen for, became nothing but a misty memory.

You were paralyzed. Part of you half expected him to turn around. Shoes clacking against the concrete pavement, racing back to you. Back to Steve. Back home.

The other half knew that it was a silly fantasy and if you stood there any longer you'd probably faint from heat exhaustion.

Steve took your hand and walked with you back to your apartment. It was a long, silent walk. Words didn't have to be said to know what the other was feeling.

Once you were almost there, Steve broke the silence, "Y/N. I know it's probably not the best time, but I have to tell you. I'm leaving in a week. I was offered a once in a lifetime chance to actually do some good and I have to take it."

You spun around, "What!? And you're just telling me now?"

Steve looked down, "I'm sorry, it just happened last night."

"Well- what about rent!? I can't afford the bills all by myself," you shouted.

"I guess you'll just have to find someone to stay with you until Buck and I get back," the blonde shrugged.

You shook your head in frustration and stormed off into the building with tears in your eyes once again.

One could mistake your outburst as anger, but really you were just afraid. So afraid that you could lose the two most important people in your life at the moment.

They had become your best friends over the span of just a few months, but it had felt like you'd always known each other.

I guess that's what happens when people are meant to meet. The connection between you is centuries old despite knowing them for no time at all.

And these two, they meant the whole world to you.

Now it felt like the world was falling apart.
