{Previously: But all good things must come to an end. Right?}

The days only seemed to get lonelier. Peggy had shown up on your doorstep a couple weeks after the announcement about Steve. Nobody understood her relationship with the soldier...nobody but you of course.

You'd formally met her a few days before Bucky left for the last time. Steve and Bucky had taken the two of you dancing and you got along quite well.

She was very easy to confide in. You had told her about how you were struggling as a waitress, which you hadn't even told the boys. You wanted to quit your job too because the environment was horrible. Disrespectful men always came in and demanded things from you, called you belittling names and slapped your ass. You were tired of it.

It wasn't like you could pay the rent for the apartment anymore on that salary anyway. It was easier with two other people helping, even one, but now you had nobody. You had to put it up for sale.

"You're welcome to stay with me for a while," She said with a cherry red smile as she sipped on her herbal tea. "I have an extra room, and I could see if the SSR would consider interviewing you."

"Peggy! Are you serious?" You were in complete shock.

"Entirely! Now it would only be a secretary position, but I'm sure we could make something work," She explained. You wrapped your arms around her and tried to ignore the burning sting of tears in your eyes, "Thank you."

The two of you became very close after that. You were practically inseparable.

"I did tell you it would be cold, didn't I?" Peggy reminded you.

You nodded, "Yup. And I didn't listen." You shivered as the wind blew through the gaps of your clothes.

Peggy was taking you to the SSR semi-secret headquarters on your first day of work after getting hired. You came slightly unprepared for the weather.

"Now, most of the guys in the office will keep to themselves if you just ignore them. The only one you'll have to watch out for is Thompson, but if you need any help I'd be happy to put him in his place." Peggy said confidently. You just smiled at her in admiration.

"Thanks again, Peg. I don't know what I would've done without your help," you kept your eyes trained on the concrete beneath your shoes as your heart ached.

She smiles knowingly and nods, "Of course. Us gals have to stick together."
