"Only cracked ribs and a dislocated shoulder and elbow. He's already healing and should be back to normal by tomorrow night," Carlisle informed his daughter and Billy Black.

"I appreciate it," Billy nodded at the Cullen in gratitude.

"Thanks, Dad," Lizzie said and hugged her dad with as much force as she could.

Carlisle broke away with a huff at the pressure and a gentle smile for his youngest. He leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to Lizzie's forehead.

"I'm always here for you, kitty," he promised.

Lizzie left Carlisle and Billy to talk as she went inside to Jacob's room and closed the door behind her. He tilted his head up when he saw her and managed a smile.

"Hey, handsome. How are you holding up?" she asked and knelt down with her arms resting on the edge of the bed.

"Better than I should be," Jake admitted. "I was worried about you. How did it go with the Volturi?"

"Better than it should have been," Lizzie said, mimicking her boyfriend's choice of words.

He raised an eyebrow at her and tried to move some to get a better view of her. Lizzie quickly helped him, propping his two pillows up so he could sit and talk to her instead of lying down.

"Carlisle and Esme saved a newborn from the battle," Lizzie started to explain. "She didn't participate in the fight. Her name's Bree Tanner. She's only fourteen or fifteen, Jake. She didn't deserve what Victoria and Riley put her through."

"Hey," Jacob said and took Lizzie's hand in his. "You're giving her a second chance at life. She's going to be fine now."

Lizzie loved her vampirism and couldn't imagine her life without it but that was because she never knew anything else. She couldn't remember her human life, her human family or friends. She knew none of it and the only people that were there for her in this life were the Cullens, her vampire family. She was lucky enough to get a second chance at living and fall right into the lap of a happy family for eternity. Lizzie had two loving sisters and three overprotective brothers, she had a caring mother and a compassionate father.

Now she had it even better than she did then. She had two more brothers, her real blood brothers and she finally met her La Tua Cantante, her soulmate. Lizzie thought of herself as beyond lucky but actually truly blessed because she still hadn't counted the Denalis, the Mikaelsons, or the Mystic Falls Gang.

"She probably had a family before this. She can't go back to them now," Lizzie said.

"It'll be hard for a while," Jake agreed and then winced when he tried to move.

Lizzie immediately but gently pushed Jacob back down, she even lightly tapped at his good arm with a smack. He chuckled and she laughed.

"Stay with me tonight?" he asked.
