Leilani Elrod

Episode 7. Dead Calm

We rode into a bad part of town, making it nearly impossible for me to ignore the feeling now.

"So they keep money out here?" Pope questioned, looking out the window.

I shrugged, "I mean, that's what she said."

JJ laughed, "That's what she said." I elbowed him.

"Stop." He stopped.

From the front seat, Sarah turned to look back at us, "I've never even heard of Resurrection Drive."

"It's 'cause you're rich."

I narrowed my eyes at JJ, "You've never heard of it either."

"Thank you!"

Surrounding us was just a bunch of trees. Nothing else. Literally.

"There's nothing but weeds back here." Kie pointed out, confusion whirling through us. This was definitely a very sketchy place for money to be kept.

"All right, just 'cause it's just weeds, doesn't mean it's, like.."

JJ was trying to be optimistic, I loved that about him, but he was cut off by police sirens behind us. When had the cop even pulled up? I swear we've been alone out here. Although, I did feel a little bit safer seeing that they had law enforcement out here.

"God! Are you kidding me?"

"What did we do?"

"Why are we getting pulled over?"

"JJ, put the gold away." I instructed him. What we were getting pulled over for was a mystery to me, but the last thing we needed was for the cop to see the gold and get any swift ideas.

"Did you bring the gun?" John B hissed at JJ, who shook his head.

"No, okay? Everybody told me to leave it back at the place."

"Thank god!"

"Please, everything else in your bag."

I groaned as I watched him stash a bag of weed in there, "How much weed do you have on you?"

"He's walking up!"

Both Pope and JJ struggled to shove it under the seat, but turns out that wasn't necessary. Bad karma was staring right at us in the form of a shotgun barrel through the window. This "cop" wasn't a cop at all and if he was, then he sure was a psycho one.

"Why don't I just go ahead and see them hands in the air right now?" The man spoke, a skeleton mask covering half of his face, making this all the more menacing. We didn't move and he shouted, "All y'all's hands up in the air right now! You, out of the car! Let's go!" John B slowly got out of the car, "Let them out!"

"JJ.." I whispered, not daring to even look up at him, knowing he was just as terrified as I was. Why didn't we just let him bring the stupid gun? John B slowly opened the door for us and we were being yelled at to get out.

We wasted no time in doing so, JJ helping me out.

"Hands off!" He yelled at us, pointing the gun at JJ. I shoved his hands off me, not wanting to risk either of us being shot.

"Relax! All right, relax!" I wanted to hit JJ for yelling back at him.

"Shut the hell up! Lay down in the ditch! Lay down in the ditch!" He pointed the gun at everyone of us, "On your goddamn hands and knees! Down! Put your face on the ground!"
