Tuesday 25th August
So far our house doesn't have much going on in it, there's the essential furniture but we have to wait for the moving vans to bring the rest of our stuff which will give our house more personality.I got an email from my new school today explaining that I'll have someone to show me around on the first day. That makes me a little less scared to start but I'm also nervous because it's so embarrassing that I'll be a new student, especially because I'm going into senior year.
I have my first driving lesson today. I can already drive but I need to do some lessons to get used to driving on the other side of the road. I made sure to get some lessons booked because there is absolutely no way I was going to be walking around everywhere.
The lesson went okay, it was daunting don't get me wrong but it won't take too long to get used to it, it's actually surprisingly easy driving in America.
So, we moved to a town in Boston called Somerville, it's quite pretty and it seems like it will be a nice place to live. My mum has already researched all the things you can do here, so at least I know I won't ever get bored.
I spent the next few hours at home hanging out with my brother, and we watched Fight Club.
When the film finished I went up to my room but couldn't bear to be in there because it looks so plain, so I decided to go to the local shopping centre, or as the Americans call it - the mall.
I went straight to a little shop that had some really cool and creative decorations, I got a sundial and a few little pictures I can put up on my walls.
The shop owner was so lovely, we were chatting for quite a while when she randomly asked if I had a job yet. I explained that this was my first day in Boston, so she offered me a job if I hand in my CV.
There was also a record store, so I got a few for when my record player finally gets here. I couldn't refrain and also bought some new clothes, the shops here have much better clothes than England.
After I'd gone to all the shops I wanted to check out, I went to the food court and got some food in a small cafe. I sat there for a while and read a book I downloaded just before we left for the airport.
It was getting late so I called my dad and asked if he could come get me.
We drove the long way home because both me and my dad love driving at night.
Dad "Did you get anything nice?"
Juliette "Yeah just some bits for my room and a few little treats for myself"
Dad "You'll have to show me when we get back home"
Juliette "Yeah of course"
Dad "The moving van should be here by next week so you'll have all of your old stuff for your room and the rest of your clothes"
Juliette "Okay that's great, I was worrying about having to go to school with no clothes"
Dad "Haha don't worry kid, they'll definitely be here in time"
Juliette "Thank God"
It was silent for a while but then my dad sighed and began speaking again.
Dad "I know this is a big change Jules but I promise it'll get easier and you'll soon settle in"
Juliette "Dad I didn't even say anything"
Dad "I know but I can just tell that you're not fully pleased about this whole thing"
Juliette "I mean yeah, obviously I'm gonna be upset because I've left all my friends and my childhood home but it's okay. I'm happy that you got this opportunity and that's all that matters"
Dad "Yes but your happiness also matters. Just remember you still have contact with all your friends so it won't be too unbearable. Plus, you'll meet tons of new people at school and have even more friends"
Juliette "Yeah that's true, I guess we'll just have to wait and see when the time actually comes around"
