Chapter Six - History Project

As soon as I got inside I raced for the shower. Soccer and netball in one day means I definitely need a quick clean.

After I was done showering I got into some comfy clothes and made my way down to the kitchen. I ate with Kol in the living room, he put on some of David Dobrik's old vlogs and we watched him together for quite a while.

I needed a break from the tv so I took our plates into the kitchen and started washing up because the dishes were starting to pile up.

Washing up is supposed to be Kol's chore but he never actually does it, so I may as well do it to pass some time and to give my parents one less thing to do.

Our sink is right in front of the window that looks out onto the road. I was just watching cars drive by when I saw a boy getting closer to the house.

I soon realised that it was Chris, I took a panicked glance to the clock in the kitchen and realised that it was 6:57pm. I'd completely lost track of time and now I have nothing prepared and I look like I just rolled out of bed.

He rang the doorbell and I shouted for Kol to get it because my hands were all wet and I wasn't quite done washing up.

Kol "Hello?"

Chris "Uh hi...I'm Chris, is Juliette home?"

Kol "Uh yeahhh...she's in the kitchen, come in"

Kol quickly glanced at me with a questioning look on his face, but then went back to watching youtube after shutting the door behind Chris.

Juliette "Hey, sorry it wasn't me at the door, my hands are a little full"

Chris "No worries. Is that your brother?"

Juliette "Yeah, his name's Kol, he's a freshman so you might've seen him around school already"

Chris "I thought he looked a little familiar. Do you um want any help with those?"

Juliette "Oh no haha don't worry about it, I can do it, you're here to do work not to help me with chores"

Chris "Nah it's fine, the quicker your chores are done, the sooner we can get started anyway"

He grabbed a towel and started drying everything for me. I finished washing and then we started putting everything away, he passed me things and then I just placed it where it belonged. It was nice having Chris' help, it made me feel like we actually got along.

I directed him to my bedroom and got out my history books.

Juliette "Sorry about the mess, I was going to clean a bit before you got here but I got carried away watching youtube with Kol"

Chris "It's alright, your room's a lot cleaner than mine"

Juliette "Haha okay that makes me feel better then. Make yourself comfortable! Do you want a drink or anything?"

Chris "Not at the minute thank you"

Juliette "Okay. So this project, do you have any ideas for what you'd like to research?"

Chris "Not really, I can't say I've given it a single thought since Mr Henderson set the work"

Juliette "Oh I see. Ummm, we could do medicine?"

Chris "Sure, I don't really care"

We settled on researching the evolution of medicine. I let Chris go on my PC, so he made most of the presentation. Whereas I borrowed my mum's laptop to do the research and write notes, which I passed to Chris after every section to write up onto the presentation.
