Ch.7: The Water Gate

"Somethings happening," Dustin said, eyeing the compass that sat in his hand. The needle was shaking vigorously, causing everyone to eye Dustin and the little tool in his palm. Dustin began to walk faster towards where the needle was pointing.

"Dustin, can you slow down?" Steve asked, hurryingly trying to catch up to Dustin, "Dustin!" He called out.

Everyone began to half run after Dustin, until he made a stop with Steve running behind him.

"Oh man," Steve stated, staring out at the woods, an empty spot of trees revealed an open and dark lake.

"Lovers lake," Robin announced, staring at the empty space of water.

"There's a gate in lovers lake?" Steve asked, putting his hands on his hips like a retired dad.

"Wherever the demogorgan attacked, it left an opening. I'm guessing Vecna's the same way," Dustin answered.

"Only one way to find out," Nancy said, heading towards the lake as everyone followed.

They approached the lake, the boat where Eddie arrived laid silently. Steve got on first before leaving room for Eddie.

"Easy!" Steve shouted as Eddie harshly got into the boat, causing it to rock, "I said easy man," Steve said annoyed.

"Sorry dude," Eddie apologized.

Steve rolled his eyes as he saw Robin approach the two boys. Steve held out his hand as Eddie tried to hold the boat steady.

"I'm just gonna-" Robin placed both of her hands on the boys head and she lifted herself into the boat.

"That works too," Steve said, he then held out a hand for Nancy. She thanked him before getting into the boat.

Steve stared at y/n as she waited patiently to get into the boat, he smiled at her as she returned the smile. Eddie popped up in between them, "m'lady," he said, holding out his hand for y/n. She laughed before giving a slight curtsy and getting into the boat.

She sat next to Nancy as she watched Eddie push Dustin's head as he tried to enter the boat.

"Are you trying to sink us?" Eddie asked, "this is all it could hold," he said. Dustin let out a scoff.

"It's better like this okay?" Steve said, "stay here with max,"

"Keep an eye out for trouble," Nancy said.

"You keep an eye out," Dustin replied, "it's my goddamn theory,"

"You heard Nance," Steve said, glaring at Dustin.

"Who the hell put her in charge?" Dustin asked in a annoyed tone.

"I did" Robin said while standing up and letting out a hand towards Dustin, "compass," she said. Dustin rolled his eyes as he sent the compass down on Robin's hand.

Finally, they began to ride away. Nancy had the compass in hand as Eddie and Steve rowed the boat. Y/n was staring off into the distance, watching the dark water pass by.

"Woah woah woah woah woah, slow down guys," Nancy said as she stared down at the compass as it flickered.

Y/n stared at the compass as it went haywire, "it's right under us," she said.

Steve began to get undressed, y/n stared up at him as he stared down at her.

"Steve, what are you doing?" Nancy asked.

"Someone's gotta go check it out," he said, tossing his shirt down, "unless one of you can top being Hawkins swim co-captain and a certified lifeguard for three years, it's gotta be me so no complaints alright?" He said.
