Daenys sighed as she stepped out of the ship that carried her to Driftmark. This was the first time Daenys stepped foot out from Runestone and having to leave for a funeral no less did make it more miserable. She shook the thought away and walked over to where the Lord and Lady of Driftmark stood.

They did truly make a good couple. Lord Corlys was tall, handsome and muscular. His dark skin went well with the velaryon silver hair and blue eyes. His posture somehow demanded fear and respect. Beside him stood a beautiful woman Daenys could only guess was Princess Rhaenys. She was everything a Targaryen princess should look like. Tall— though shorter than her lord husband and a great beauty by the Targaryen traits of silver hair and deep purple eyes. Standing beside each other they looked like King and Queen.

Daenys briefly wondered how the seven kingdoms would have been if they would have had Rhaenys as their Queen. Something they would never know, Daenys thought.

With her Maester beside her she walked towards the Velaryons and bowed deeply in respect.

"My Lord, Princess Rhaenys. It is a pleasure to finally meet you— though I regret that the first time I meet you both would be on a sad day such as this."

Lord Corlys nodded at her while Princess Rhaenys only tilted her head in wonder.

"We are glad to have you here Lady Daenys."

Wanting to ease their first meeting, she continued. "I never met your daughter, the Lady Laena but I have heard of her beauty and charm and regret me never seeing her with my own eyes."

Princess Rhaenys stared at her before smiling slightly. "Yes. My daughter was all that I assure you. She was your stepmother as well, Lady Daenys. What do you think of that?"

Lord Corlys sent a sharp look to his wife. Princess Rhaenys didn't spare a glance at him.

Lady Daenys gritted her teeth in annoyance. She knew Princess Rhaenys wanted her to lash out like a small child. But Daenys was no child. She was Lady of Runestone and would humiliate herself in such way.

"Lady Laena was my stepmother, yes. As I said I did regret not meeting her—"

"Yet you did not come for her and your fathers wedding if I remember correctly?"

Daenys could feel herself growing annoyed. "I was a child of six namedays Princess Rhaenys. I could not make such a journey as I was then newly made Lady of Runestone. I had my duties and my father had his."

Lord Corlys interrupted his wife. "I think you should meet the other lords and ladies present, Lady Daenys. Thank you for arriving for our daughters funeral."

She bowed and practically ran off. She could not stand in the presence of Princess Rhaenys any longer. She did not miss the sharp look and hissed whispers Lord Corlys sent his wife when she had turned her head around to watch them.

She paid no mind to it and walked to the rest of the guests who had arrived.

Daenys could feel the stares linger on her face and back. This was the first time any man or woman had laid their eyes on Prince Daemon's eldest daughter from a woman he utterly despised.

A beauty.

The maiden reborn.

Gorgeous.
