Jay's POV
We were halfway through a scary movie when I felt my heart race. Ni-Ki had shifted closer towards me. My heart was beating so fast and my vision was steadily blurring, if I didn't get away now, who knows what would happen,
"Ni-Ki I'm gonna go to the bathroom,"
"Sure,"
I dragged my body up the stairs and slumped myself against the bathroom door making sure to lock it. With the little strength I had left I splashed cold water on my face before approaching Ni-Ki at a distance,
"Ni-Ki, where's the guest room?"
"Upstairs first door to your left, why?"
"Are you sick?" He immediately jumped up from the couch and touched my forehead with the back of his hand (Mom vibes).
"You're burning up,"
"It's nothing, just please stay away,"
The hurt in his eyes would be visible from a mile away but my heart was beating insanely and I now had an ever-growing headache. I felt my feet being swept off the floor and carried upstairs. My eyes were closed as the pain was too much to bear. When I finally got laid on the bed, I felt better, but my heart still yearned for the boy in my mind.
No one's POV
Ni-Ki climbed down the stairs for the who-knows-how-many-times today. He got some ice from the freezer, put it in a freezer bag and ran it under the tap for a little while knowing how cold it would be (Someone get me this Ni-Ki please). When he decided it was cool enough he ran with it back upstairs hoping Jay's fever would die down. It didn't, Ni-Ki was about to leave when Jay tugged on his wrist,
"Stay,"
"What happened to 'It's nothing just please stay away' ?"
"That was in the past,"
"The past is really mean,"
Jay let out a dry chuckle before saying,
"Precisely that,"
Jay was the first to wake up and in waking up he noticed a red string wrapped around his and Ni-Ki's pinkie fingers. He looked up at a still peacefully sleeping Ni-Ki and thought,
'If only you knew the true story'
Little did Jay the truth was being unraveled right there and then.
Ni-Ki's Dream/POV
I could see Jay falling through a void, I reached out to grab his hand but I couldn't save him in time. A red piece of string tied to our pinkies was withering rather quickly and Jay's eyes soon became as dark as the void itself. Once Jay had fallen the void turned into a deep pool of bloody water. I no longer saw Jay in my eyes, instead I saw a monster, with a heart as dense as rubber. Penetrable but not breakable. I stared at my reflection and was surprised to see that I had turned into a girl, one I had never seen before. I blinked and at that moment, everything changed. Jay was standing in the middle of a field of snowdrops,
'Hope'
Expect the worst, then hope for the best
His burning gaze burst a hole through my heart but this time, the hole filled itself up again and written on it was hope, the one word I relied on the most in this twisted world. I looked back up at Jay to find him fading away little by little, I ran towards him but it was too late.
This time the girl was shown with her eyes red-rimmed from crying, breathing heavy and blood down her face. She was shouting but her voice was inaudible. Along the wall there was spray paint saying,
'Faggot'
'Do you really deserve to live or love?'
'Fuck off!'
'Run away, the world wouldn't care cause they're after you anyway'
'I don't need you'
I turned back to find myself standing on a never-ending bridge. Jay stood beside me smiling as we walked hand-in-hand down the bridge together. Together. Just me and him. Just the way I liked me. I liked me better with him.
(A/N: Did feel a bit sick whilst writing this chapter got better in the end 🙂, 651 words)
