Bellamy makes it to the hospital in record time. It's late when he arrives, well past midnight, and definitely beyond visiting hours. But with his badge and the delicate situation with Clarke the nurses let him through without difficulty. Even with the great progress Clarke has made, it didn't mean she went without hard days. Luckily today she had a good one. If only Bellamy didn't have to break the news to her like this. He knew he had to tell her before news spread about her father in the morning. It was best to hear it first and from him than a news media outlet on television, or worse the nurses gossiping.
With a deep breath Bellamy enters her room. At first hes surprised to find her awake, but then he understands it must be a hard night. She has her days where she's able to sleep through the night alone, and others where she's up and down and finding ways to occupy her time until she can sleep. Tonight was one of those nights it seemed. Clarke sets down her charcoal as she hears her door open and smiles when she sees who enters.
"Hey." She offers, a brow furrowed as she glances between him and the clock above the door.
"Hey Princess." He tries to smile, really he does, but the moment her own smile falters is when he knows he isn't convincing at all.
"What's wrong?" She asks immediately, her senses not once failing her. Clarke sets her sketch book aside as Bellamy comes to sit on the edge of her bed and rests his hand on the ledge, his head hung low. She waits for several moments but he says nothing. "Bellamy?" Again, no answer, but the pain and worry in his eyes reflects in his gaze, making her gasp. "Now you're scaring me." He looks up and reaches for her hands, his thumb running over her knuckles as she reaches back.
"That is the last thing I ever want you to feel from me." Clarke looks at their hands and wiggles her body to turn and face him fully. Her knee brushing his own as she sighs.
"Then tell me what's wrong, Bellamy. Somethings happened." She says as she gestures to his gear. Sighing and cursing himself for not changing before entering the hospital, Bellamy closes his eyes and takes a moment before speaking. He needed to say it before he lost his nerve.
"I need you to do something for me before I say anything else. Can you do that Princess?" She eyes him wearily but nods. "Don't hate your mother or Kane or me." Clarke immediately straightens up and tries to move her hands. But Bellamy is faster and moves his hand under hers in case she wants to not be near him.
"Now you're scaring the hell out of me. What happened?!" She demands. He offers his hand again and she looks down. He waits and she sighs. He holds her hand, really holds it with as much grip as he could without startling her, and looks into her eyes.
"Your father's been arrested for murder."
"What?!?" Bellamy keeps hold of her hand and moves closer to her, relieved when she doesn't move away. "What the hell happened?! Bellamy!" She cries looking at the door then to him.
"You can't see him yet. But I promise once he's settled and the paperwork is done I'll make sure you see him."
"But- Why- who-" her brain short circuits and Bellamy gently tugs her arms, a hint she doesn't resist, instead she falls immediately into his arms as she scrambles to make sense of the information . "I-I don't understand!"
Bellamy knew this was tearing her apart, but there wasn't anything he could do, and that hurt just as much. Clarke has been through hell and back, and the life she returned to was more broken and painful than anyone could have predicted it would be. And then the few pieces left shattered with the news of her father. And the confusion was only eating her up inside further. It was because of this and this alone that be blurted out the name- his name.
