Author's Note:
And we're back with Bellamy's perspective! I know Chapter 4 was hard, and Chapter 6 will be the hardest of all in this story (And the longest to give you fair warning) So to give you all another break between the sorrow our dear characters have to go through, here is what Bellamy and his friends are up to!
Days turn into weeks as weeks turn into months and Bellamy is still no closer to finding her or figuring out what happened that day.Councilman Dante Wallace's reelection should not dictate the ability to investigate a missing teen, particularly a family member of Ardadia PD's own officer. And yet the Chief of police was set on not investigating whatsoever. There were too many factors that didn't add up to Bellamy. All he does know is that Pike not only lied about having a team investigate her disappearance, but has been secretly having all evidence of other cases destroyed. If that wasn't reason enough for Bellamy's suspicion to grow, his sudden and random disappearances during the day was.
As discreetly as they could, both Miller and Bellamy not only continue their investigation into Octavia's disappearance, but into the suspicious behaviors of their boss.
Their first steps? Finding out exactly where Pike disappears throughout the day. Both take turns failing Pike when he leaves the office, making sure the other is at the office for cover and a story. Who knows just how deep there rot in Arkadia PD truly goes? Who knows how many of their fellow officers in arms are under Pikes influence.
They stick to tailing Pike whenever he leaves while the other stays behind. For days its small meager places and tasks such as running errands. But just once it was all they needed to catch him in the wrong place at the right time. It seemed like maybe they were wrong. Maybe Pike wasn't dirty after all but just your average control freak of a boss who was stretched too thin. But even with their doubts they continue on keeping their tail on their boss.
Another week passes with nothing new or suspicious going on when it comes to Pike. It was Miller's day today and halfway through Pikes errand runs he nearly turns the rover around to return to the station. Except something changes his mind as soon as you recognize the buildings in which Pike was turning on. They were driving in the slums of the town, parts of the city that not even the poorest of a poor would ever dare enter. These streets will run by criminals and gang members only. No ordinary citizen would in their right mind enter this part of town.
So why was Charles Pike willingly driving in this direction?
With his interest peaked, Miller slows down but keeps the tail on the chief of police. Even with the distance between them it was clear exactly where they were headed- To Paxton McCreary's warehouse. Sure enough as Miller parks the Rover discretely on the side of the street with several deserted cars he pulls out his camera to zoom in on his view of Pike. Before he could leave his view Miller takes several shots of the man exiting the car and entering the building. But once inside the view that Miller had is gone.
"Shit." He curses.
Even with the few photos he has it wasn't enough. Pike could give any number of excuses as to why he was in McCreary's warehouse. In any case it would reflect horribly on Miller and Bellamy for following Pike from the start with refutable evidence and theories with no evidence at all. To nail Pike for anything they needed more than flimsy evidence. But to gain what was required there was only one thing Miller could do- go inside.
Both Bellamy and Miller agreed to not do anything reckless or jump into action without thinking. It was the safest and most effective way to ensure their investigation not only stays secret but concrete. The less errors they have the better their chances are of creating a solid case against Pike and those under his influence. Without more evidence to go on, it wouldn't just be their lives at stake but Octavia's life. If they don't put an end to Pike's corruption and find Octavia soon, she may not have much time left. And given the amount of cases similar to hers, who knew how many others lives were at stake. They needed the evidence no matter the costs.
