When Bellamy leaves Clarke's room he walks through the halls and runs into Jake Griffin. The older man was sitting in a waiting chair in the hall with his head down and shoulders slouched forward. A part of Bellamy felt sorry for the man. He lost his daughter years ago and in between them his marriage, and ultimately his family, was torn apart. His career went up in flames and he lost everything. Discovering his daughters rescue might have been the only good news he's received in years. But a part of Bellamy is also suspicious of him as well. Something was off with Jake Griffin but Bellamy couldn't quite put a finger on it.
"Mr. Griffin." he addresses. The blonde head of hair moves up and Bellamy meets the man's blue eyes. For a moment he's stunned at the resemblance between the man and Clarke. Not only were they close but it seemed Clarke had inherited a lot of genes from her father's side as well. Only Jake's hair was grayer and cut much shorter.
"She told her." Jake states as he stands, his eyes looking over Bellamy's shoulders in the direction of his daughters room. His gaze catching a glimpse of Bellamy nodding. "How did she take it?" Bellamy sighs and looks away but the older man's head hangs low in understanding. "Figured."
The hustle and bustle of the hospital buzzes around them not allowing much room for conversation. Not that Bellamy had much to comment on after the family troubles but that didn't mean the conversation was over with, at least not yet. However Jackson's presence keeps them from divulging too far into it. The young doctor smiles as he sees an old familiar face, though shocked, he was glad to see Jake nonetheless. He doesn't have much time for pleasantries so Jackson gets to the punch by asking Bellamy how Clarke's condition is. Seeing as Abby was no where to be found Bellamy was the next person to ask.
Jake looks between the doctor and detective for a moment as they talk, hardly noticing when the conversation ends. All he picks up on is Jackson asking Bellamy of all people how Clarke was fairing and updates on her condition.
When Jackson leaves the pair Jake turns to Bellamy with a curious eye before asking why the doctor is speaking to Bellamy about Clarke's condition and not her mother or going to check on the young woman himself. Bellamy brushes a hand though his hair as he looks at the man to his side. He shouldn't be surprised by his question, but a part of him was hoping to not bring up the subject.
He wasn't exactly sure what it was he had with Clarke. All he knew was that she trusted him more than anyone else besides Octavia, including her own mother. Something everyone in the hospital now knew but didn't talk about. It was a sensitive subject that wasn't pushed for unspoken reasons. And here Jake Griffin was ringing it into the light.
"Clarke doesn't like to be, uh, crowded around. She's closed off and doesn't let a lot of people near her." Bellamy summarizes quickly, but the older man doesn't but it. Not completely.
"Except you." Jake states with a raised brow.
"I was on the team that brought her home." He simplifies, but the older Griffin just smiles a knowing smile.
"She remembers you rescuing her. She trusts you."
Bellamy nods stiffly, expecting the exchange and conversation to be over. It was, to put it simply, uncomfortable. Not only because of the tender unspoken subject but because the person Bellamy was talking it over with was Clarke's father. And yet he didn't seem to be affronted or care. Instead Jake smiles and places a hand on Bellamy's shoulder.
"Treat her right, protect her. If not..." He trails off. "Let's just say you're not the only one here who knows people."
Bellamy gives the older man an estranged look but nods in understanding before he turns to leave. He only gets so far before Clarke's father asks where he was headed, noticing the direction wasn't towards Clarke's room. Bellamy gives him a quick run down on Clarke shutting everyone out right now. With so much that's happened today its best to leave her alone until she wants someone around. Until he gets the call from Jackson, Bellamy's heading back to the station. Though limited to what he can do there he's more help than he is right now at the hospital. Jake's smile falls immediately.
