-Spiros' POV-

"Sorry we had to leave dinner so soon" Charlie sighed from behind the wheel.

"It's not your fault, the boss called us in an hour early" I groaned leaning my head back against the car seat.

We had only been at dinner for an hour and a half after all the cubs returned from school. We had eaten Melody's home-cooked meal, it was delicious. I had only spent a small amount of time with my cubs playing games. I needed to organise one on one time with each of them. Kenji was so good at it, listening to their worries and problems and making them better.

"I always feel bad when we leave pride dinners early but they're all so understanding" Charlie spoke snapping me from my thoughts.

"I know but we do have to make a living somehow, shame our jobs are come when called instead of Edwards nine to five" I replied my lion grumbling in slight jealousy.

"We're here" Charlie voiced as he pulled the car into the car park next to the security building.

"Well let's go in," I Said when Charlie turned off the car and we got out of the vehicle.

I led the way as we walked to the building. I scented the air as I went and caught the scents of several security guards and the boss Evan. Walking into the building I grinned. Evan already looked fed up with the two new hires. Evan looked at us as we entered relief shining in his green eyes.

"Ah Charlie, Spiros. So glad you could make it. I wouldn't have had you in so early but a celebrity has asked for extra security for a party" Evan explained rubbing a hand through his strawberry-blonde hair.

"Why would a celebrity want to host a party in this quiet town" I questioned my lion growling in annoyance.

"That's the reason, Quiet places like this see a boom in industry after a celebrity visit so the mayor invited it" Evan groaned, it was almost like just the thought of the evening was enough to cause him pain.

"So it's being held at the mayor's house?" Charlie asked as he came back with his gear and his ear piece.

"Yes, go get tacked up Spiros and then we'll head on out, Oh and the new guys Gus and Steve will be joining us" Evan ordered and then pointed at the new hires.

I smiled at the new lads before going to do what the boss had ordered. As I put on my gear my lion grumbled at the extra weight of the bullet proof padding, When I put on my ear piece I got some static before it finally connected to the network.

Checking my locker for the last of my things my eyes caught the inside door of my locker. I had put in a family photo, Kenji and I were side by side with Remi and Pheonix in front and then the triplets sitting at the bottom. The photo was from four years ago and it always reminded me of how much all the cubs were growing. Next to that photo were little notes and hand drawn pictures. They were all precious treasures to me. My favourite was the one with all our animals on it, cats of different species but all family.

"Spiros" Charlie called through the coms, a knowing tone in his voice.

I shut my locker and rushed to the front where Charlie had his hands on his hips and a raised eyebrow. I rubbed the back of my head and mumbled a small apology and then it was go time. We went to the venue in the company SUV and when we got out Evan organised the teams. Charlie had to work with Gus and I was partnered with Steve.

Gus was a pale tall and slender man, he looked to have a swimmers build with dark hair and dark eyes. I think he was doing a year before going to the police academy. Steve was mixed race from what I could tell, his hair tightly curled on his head. He was short and looked more filled out than Gus.

"You all have your assignments move out, party ends at 1am so try not to get to cold" Evan ordered and then we split up.

Charlie and Gus took the front of the house and Evan took the back exit. We had told him that he needed a partner but he insisted he wanted to work with the mayors own staff. I swear the man was only trying to woo someone. Myself and Steve were stationed in the garden. My lion grumbled in my mind as the music started. Something with heavy base. A DJ and strobing lights, a fog machine and bubbles. And heavens knows why but an uncovered pool. The guests flowed in long before the host. The dancing bodies of humans giving of the stench of sweat started to make me nauseous.

That wasn't the only contributing scent though, food, alcohol, vomit, urine. This is why my lion hated parties it was as if every human was an animal. All trying to mark the same territory and claim someone to do the deed with. I growled lowly as one of the women in the party tried to approach. Luckily she backed away.

"Your a shifter, I keep forgetting" Steve chuckled nervously his scent giving away fear.

It wasn't me who he should be afraid of. There are plenty of things in this world worse than me.

"I can smell your fear Steve. Don't worry I'm here for a job same as you" I reasured grinning as Steve let out a sigh of relief.

"So why you take this job" Steve asked briefly glancing at me before he refocused on the party.

"To finance myself, and the bonuses are good. Plus I have a family now and I told Evan I'd do some overtime this week. My twins have their 15th birthday this Saturday. We're pulling out all the stops" I answered smiling as I remembered what we had planned for their birthday. The whole pride was involved.

The rest of the night went smoothly and without a hitch. Luckily no-one decided they wanted to go after the host so it was just a cold time. I did have to growl at several people to move along. When I finally got home my lion was still on edge. Walking through the house I went to the triplets room first. I kissed all three on the forehead and told them that I loved them before I walked to the twins' rooms and did the same. Remi sleepily replied telling me she loves me too before she rolled over and her Cheetah took over. Her spotted cat now sleeping in her place. I made sure they all wore stretching pjs' so they didn't have to worry about shifting during the night.

Leaving her room I went to mine and Kenjis. I closed the door gently behind me and stifled a laugh as I turned and saw Kenji. The quilt was only over his hips. His long hair was up in a messy bun and he had a book over his face, small snores quietly escaping him.

"Now now Kitten, I told you not to wait up" I whispered as I moved around the room shedding my clothes as I went. I took his book off his face.

Climbing into bed I pulled the covers up and kissed Kenji on the forehead. Wrapping my arm around him I pulled him close only to have him snuggle into my chest. It was adorable and it melted my heart. It always did.

"I love you Kitten"
