Ivan
Before we left, I ensured that the library would be built as soon as possible. Contractors, designers and construction workers that I trusted have been contacted by now and are probably starting to get to work.
I decided to leave Eliana with Nyah for company and protection because I knew my sister wouldn't let anyone touch Nyah. And I also knew that my sister would rather stay home with her best friend than deal with the bullshit Malachi got himself into. So the three of us, Kaian, Malachi and I are on our way to New York, the place where Malachi gets in trouble the most.
"I would ask you what you did-" I began.
"And I would explain why I did it, but it's clear that we both don't want to do either of those things," he shrugged. "So let's not,"
Being the eldest brother of this damn family, I was given the responsibility to look after my siblings. But what I wasn't prepared for and never will be is how difficult it is to keep a Volkov in line. It was as if it was in our blood to never follow the rules.
"But seriously though, I think the most important thing that needs to be discussed right now is how loud you guys fucking are in bed," Malachi said,
"Malachi shut the fuck up,"
"I'm just saying, do you really want everyone hearing your wife moan?"
"You've got your own damn house, stay there." I argue.
"We can still hear from miles away," Kaian adds.
"That's a fucking compliment," I retort and they both smiled, shaking their heads.
"You are our brother, Ivan, it's fucking weird," Malachi says, pouring himself a glass of scotch.
"I can't help being able to make her feel good," I said, taking the glass from him, taking a sip.
"Ivan get the fuck out of the damn car," he said, drinking straight from the bottle, he silently offered some to Kaian but he shook his head, refusing.
"We're here," the driver said when the car stopped in front of the bank and I frowned, remembering the business we had to take care of.
"Kaian your tech's got shit covered?" I asked, setting the glass in a cup holder.
"Yeah, security's been replaced too, it's our men guarding the doors now,"
"Good," I said, getting out of the car and buttoning my suit jacket again, taking a quick scan of the people around.
Malachi followed, bumping into me and Kaian stood silently beside me, taking his own scan of the crowd.
"Malachi don't bust your ass," we told our youngest brother at the same time.
It was something we told him every time we were about to get into a mission. We stopped, though, when our father died and today, it continued.
Malachi looked at us with a wide grin. "When have I ever done that?" He said, leading the way.
We walk up to the first "guard", Kaian mumbled something to him and the man took out his walkie-talkie and ordered the others to empty out the building.
Within minutes, the people that were inside began to get out, stealing confused and curious glances at us and walking away anyway. It only really needed one look for people to rightfully fear us.
Now, it was only the clerks left, three of them looking at us warily.
"Hello," Malachi grinned at them, waving.
"Good morning, sirs, how may we help you?"
"What's your name?" Malachi asked."
"Adam, sir,"
"Aright, Adam, let me ask you and your co-workers to do one thing for me, okay?" He said, Kaian made his way to the back and one of the clerks began to walk towards him to stop him but a guard stopped the clerk and let Kaian through.
The clerk speaking to Malachi looked from me to him in confusion.
"Take the report against Malachi Volkov back or my brother over there," he said, pointing in the general direction where Kaian went. "Is going to blow this place up, and we," he added, motioning between him and I. "Are going to give you the worst beating of your life, do you understand?"
"Sir, the police are on their way," the clerk tells him, his chin held up in feign confidence.
"How do you know they are on their way?" I asked.
My voice startled him and he looked at me, before speaking. "Because every bank has an alarm-"
"And what makes you think we haven't taken care of that?"
"How did a dumbass like you land a job in a bank like this?" Malachi asked. "Take the report back, Adam,"
"U-unfortunately, we aren't in control of doing that, sir,"
I look at the other clerks who stood frozen in their spots, staring at us wide eyed.
"I think you'd know better than to lie to us, Adam Reyes," I said, turning my attention back on him. "You're the manager of this bank, you have a wife and three kids, four if you count the one you're about to have with your mistress, and this isn't your only job, you also work as a waiter at a strip club, not because you need the money but because you like to stare at girls. Does you wife know about that?" I asked, recalling every single detail Kaian presented me with about him.
He stared at me, his mouth open and his eyes wide in shock.
"Take the report against my brother back or I will end your life, starting with your job, then your wife, then your kid-"
"I'll take it back! I'll take it back." He exclaimed, holding up his hands.
"Now would be a good time to do it," Malachi said, with a gleaming smile as if he was asking for a treat.
"Okay, okay," Adam said, turning his computer on. Malachi went behind him to watch over his shoulder. And I take the gun out from its holster as a threat that if he was playing around, I won't hesitate to use it.
"The bomb's ready, just let me know if I should start the countdown." Kaian calls out and I smile at the alignment of it all.
I could see Adam's hands shaking as he clicked and typed on his computer. Malachi's devious smile is a mirror of my own.
"Ok, it's done. I promise it's done."
Malachi nods in confirmation and walks back towards me. "No need for the bomb, Kaian! Adam was kind enough to be cooperative."
Kaian appeared again, a frown on his face. "I really thought I'd be able to fucking use it today,"~~~
"You think Lia's got a boyfriend?" I asked Malachi as we sat on the sofa. Knowing my siblings, I knew that Malachi was the one Eliana trusted most.
"I don't know, she doesn't tell me that shit anymore," Malachi answered. "Why?"
"She showed up with a hickey before I got married then when I asked her she flipped out,"
"When does she not flip out? She's always fucking mad, got a stick up her ass or something," Kaian muttered, lighting a cigarette.
"Yeah because you guys can't mind your damn business," Malachi said, loosening his tie and leaning back.
"Fuck off," Kaian muttered, going to the window.
"You're just jealous Lia's nice to me,"
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I took it out, it was a message from Nyah and my senses went on alert, my mind racing with thoughts of all the possible danger that could have happened during the time that I was gone but when I opened it, my shoulders relaxed.
It was a thank you message which I guessed was for the library.
"Why the fuck are you smiling like an idiot at your phone?" Malachi asked, snatching it from me.
"Piece of shit," I mutter and make a grab for it but he threw it at Kaian who caught it, reading the message.
I sighed, shoving Malachi away from me. "Give it back,"
They were both by the window, reading her thank you message that was meant only for me.
"You're looking like a fool over a 'thank you'?" Kaian asked, looking disgusted.
"Obviously, it's from his wife that he's so madly in love with," Malachi said, mockingly.
I take my phone back, glaring at both of them. "You both should try love, fix you up a little, maybe with a woman in your life you won't be such pricks,"
"Who says we don't have women in our lives? We have plenty," Malachi smiled and Kaian chuckled.
"One woman,"
"Love isn't for me, shit's overrated and I really wasn't expecting it to be for you either, Ivan, what the fuck happened to you?" Kaian asked.
Nyah happened, that's what.
