Ivan
Nothing but pure, undiluted rage fulfilled my mind the next few days. After what happened to Nyah's father, I asked Eliana to tell me everything that happened. And it turns out that the son of a bitch had been doing things to her ever since my father died. What was fucking worse is that Nyah's mother knew about it too and did absolutely fucking nothing to stop it. What kind of human being did one have to be to reach that level of insanity?
I trusted Kaian to take care of Eliana and Nyah while Malachi and I took care of other business, now everything was over and we were headed home. To me, that meant the lodge, to Malachi that meant the Villa, which means we'd have to separate ways.
I wasn't angry at Nyah, not anymore, turns out I couldn't be angry with her for long. I just couldn't face her yet. Couldn't bring myself to look at her when she knew about the things her father did and maybe it was shame. Shame on myself that I was delusional enough to think I could ever be enough for her, that kept me away too.
It should stay this way though. With her out of my life, I should start processing our divorce.
She admitted to me herself that I wasn't good enough for her and now with no reason to stay with me, she shouldn't have to.
It's already been two days since what happened and I haven't seen her or spoken to her since. I missed her, wanted her to be in my arms again but for now, it's best for us to be apart.
"Your wife's been calling, Ivan," Malachi told me as I drove the car, ignoring my phone vibrating.
"Leave it,"
"Too late, I already answered," he said. "Hello?"
"Fucking hell,"
He put the phone to his ear and listened to Nyah's voice. "He's driving, did you want to talk to him? ... Yeah... that's good...okay, bye."
"What did she say?" I asked.
"She said she slept with another man and she's gonna leave your ass," he said seriously and I damn well believed it, my grip on the steering wheel tightening at the thought of another man touching her.
"I'm joking, you piece of shit, she wouldn't leave your ass for the world, Ivan, everybody knows it. I don't know why don't,"
"I killed her parents,"
"When we got there, Nyah was on her way to killing him herself anyway, and her mother killed herself, you didn't kill her," he said, anger in his voice. "And they both fucking deserved it,"
"What did my wife tell you?" I asked, impatient to know why she called.
"She's asking for you and if you're safe," he answered, sighing.
My heart ached at the thought. She shouldn't be worrying about my safety right now. She should be leaving.
"Didn't even ask if I was safe," he muttered.
"Shut the fuck up, Malachi,"
"Okay, I'm just saying," he shrugged. "Oh, and she also said her uncle's visiting, watching over Eliana and stuff,"
I frowned. "Kaian wasn't enough?"
"Kaian has the personality of a fucking rock, of course he's not enough and anyway, Uncle Dev is a therapist, it could help Lia,"
"I just don't understand why she didn't tell anyone, not even you,"
"She used to tell dad everything, remember? Maybe that's why the son of a bitch did it to her after dad died, nobody would come after him,"
Just thinking about him and his damn motivations made me want to smash his head in with a brick. "Frey's already fucking dead and I want to kill him again."
Malachi didn't respond, which wasn't at all like him, which meant he was pissed and we were silent for a few moments before he finally spoke again.
"So what are you gonna do now?" He asked me. "It doesn't look like you wanna come home,"
"I can't,"
"Fuck do you mean you can't?" He asked, looking at me.
"She doesn't even want me, said I wasn't good enough for her."
"She said that? Like really said it? She said 'I don't want you, you're not good enough for me'." He asked, clearly confused.
I nod.
"Bullshit! She doesn't mean that. Are you fucking joking? You know how in movies they say you see your world in the other's eyes or some shit like that? Well you two see it. Everybody can see the you can see it. You can bring the world's best liar and you couldn't bring that person to lie about how obvious your love for each other is."
My brows furrowed and I scored at him. "She doesn't love me, Malachi."
"Don't be fucking stupid, Ivan, she loves you. And even if she doesn't love you, you love her. Shouldn't that be enough to make you fight for it? You got a good thing going, don't ruin it by not using your fucking brain." He said. "Drop me off here, I got someone to meet." He added, pointing to a corner street.
"You better not be buying drugs," I said, putting his words in the back of my mind and knowing damn well he was probably meeting a drug dealer or one of his hookups.
"Kiss my ass," he said then stepped out. "Bye, asshole,"
He walked off and I drove away, stealing a glance at the rear view mirror to see him flipping me off. I shook my head, Malachi always used the most fucked up ways to cheer someone up, needless to say, it worked a little.
