The Nightmare

—————

Nighttime.

It was sweaty inside of Cobra's steel walls,

The lamps inside of the tank emitted a faint glow, keeping the interior from descending into the same deep darkness as the outside.

Yukari was dead tired.

Her parents would never let her stay up past midnight, which was a pretty flexible schedule, but they must have been up and constantly running for more than thirty straight hours.

Her arms still felt like numb strips of rubber, still aching from the day's long workout,

Physical Education back home allowed her to cut loose in the gym for an hour or so, it was this same rubbery, tired feeling that happened after a whole period of constant exercise and physical play. At least that's what it felt like before she conditioned herself to become a loader. Then PE was easy.

The thoughts of being at home were practically making her nauseous from homesickness.

"Stop..." she said tiredly to herself.

*clank!

Carm closed his hatch, peering down into the interior from his elevated seat.

"Everyone have sleeping bags?" Carm said

"Here" Lonnie said, still hesitating from touching the scar etched across his face.

"I have mine" Lakie said, dragging it out from atop his backpack, unfolding it,

Lakie's green sleeping bag practically took up the entirety of the turret basket.

If one boy's sleeping bag took up that much space, then there was absolutely no way that six boys and one girl could possibly share the same space.

Going outside of the tank and making yourself Nazi bait was not an option

"I brought one, but I'm not exactly sure where I'm going to sleep in here." Ralph said.

"You can sleep in your seat, Give it to Yukari." Carm said.

That was the main thing,

Yukari didn't exactly have anywhere dedicated to sit, so she was either sitting on the floor, or leaning against the hull.

"Well.... I see Sargey still has a crush. Heheh." Gary said.

Nobody had the strength to argue, and judging by the look of Gary's tear-stained eyes, it seemed like he didn't either.

"Very funny." Carm said

Yukari took her temporary sleeping bag and tried to sprawl out onto the floor,

Lakie was smaller than his brother, but still larger than her, so it was hard to find a spot.

Yukari eventually settled with one leg being propped up against the wall, with the other leg was half crossed.

Wasn't as comfortable as a bed, but there's only so much space in a tank.

Yukari put her head on her backpack, using it like a pillow

A few of the boys started praying, probably to God, probably for protection.

Yukari still didn't know this ins and outs of western religion yet.
