I laced up my boots as Avery begun to pack up some of her own things as she needed to check out in a few hours. Her outfit for the next day laid out neatly on the desk chair as her laptop and other tech stayed on the bed or were on charge on the nightstand.
"I should be back before 2am if I leave now", I said, securing the clips on my backpack.
Avery seemed disappointed as she slipped a dressing gown on, the cold autumn air making the hairs on her arms stand up. "Damn, and here I thought we could have a bit more fun together".
"Oh, I'm sure you'll cause someone else grief even without me here", I said, adjusting my head gear.
She laughed. "You're probably right but now that I know of the joys of having a partner in crime I think I'll get lonely without you".
I walked out onto the balcony as she followed after me. Surveying the street down below as well as the activities of other guests at the hotel I calculated the best route down without getting seen.
Avery leaned against the doorframe as she watched me. "So, was this a once off encounter, or do I get to annoy you in the physical world again someday?"
"I'm sure between the two of us we'll be able to come up with better way for us to hang out".
She nodded. "By the way, I would suggest that whatever you're planning to do about that lab, do it soon. Construction is still ongoing dispute the press letter they had released and it will be completed within the next few days".
"Shit", I said, pulling up her hard drives information.
"My suggestion would be to just bring the whole building down. Don't even bother going for the lab", Avery said, tucking stray strands of hair behind her ears.
"And how would you suggest we do that?"
She shrugged. "You're the one with a synopsis on how to create a controlled black hole. I would say you could figure it".
I laughed as I tucked her hard drive back into my pocket after downloading everything on it. "You really went through my entire computer".
"I'm not going to confirm or deny that right now as you have to leave now but I would say that the best cheese to put onto a pizza would be a mix of mozzarella, gouda and sweet cheddar. Good night", Avery said, closing the balcony door behind her before I could respond.
I laughed as I hopped over the railing, falling 8 stories down before I landed on a patio facing the alleyway. Jumping down the last 2 stories, I aimed it just right that I landed next to the manhole cover before I entered the sewer.
Once I was inside the sewer I got a notification from Avery.
Ghost28: Did you really just jump down 8 stories and walk off like it was nothing?
I laughed as I caught the last train downtown through the service tunnels. I laid on my stomach as I let Leo know that I was on my way back.
He didn't reply but he did read the message.
TurtleGenius: I'll be fine but I wouldn't suggest you try that anytime soon.
Ghost28: It wouldn't have made sense for me to even think about it.
I rolled off the side of the train as I arrived at my stop, a barred access tunnel that, according to the City of New York, led to a bricked up wall.
Scanning my finger and inputting the code, I pushed open the gate before closing and locking it behind me.
TurtleGenius: Good night, Avery.
Ghost28: Good night, Donnie.
Ghost28: *disconnected*
