Time Is Limited (Zooey Kern x M!Reader)

Zooey found herself on the freeway on her way back home to live with her parents. After Ben had passed away, she had tried to fight the feelings she felt for his son Matt. But she ended up finding her way back to him. They both started to date and after a year together they moved in together. It wasn't until she walked in on him cheating in their bed with their neighbour. 

"Come on Zooey, it was an accident." He pleaded with her. She just scoffed and shook her head at him as she packed her bags.

"You putting your cock in her fanny was an accident? What happened? Did you trip and fall into her?" She mocked him as she pushed past him to collect her things from the night stand. "Don't touch me!" She shouted at him as she could feel the tears in her eyes. "I thought you were different, you were the best one of the both of us but I guess I was wrong. I don't ever want to see you again." She finished as she pushed passed him and packed all of her things in her car and started to drive without looking back. 

She found herself thinking that this must have been how Y/N had felt when she cheated on him. She started to feel guilty because of the way she had treated him. He was the nicest man she had ever known. He loved her with everything he was and she just threw it in his face like their marriage meant nothing to her. Before she knew it, she was pulling up outside her childhood home. The very home she lived in when she met her husband. When he came to do some work for her parents.

Zooey came home from work tired and all she wanted to do was sleep. As she lay down to sleep there was a drilling noise coming from outside. She looked out of her bedroom window and noticed there was a guy around her age.

"Do you mind, some of us need to sleep." Zooey told him bluntly as he looked in her direction and smiled at her. Zooey's heart skipped a beat at his intense gaze. 

"You don't need anymore beauty sleep. You're already drop dead gorgeous." He spoke confidently making her blush and smile shyly. 

"You're very confident." She spoke up trying to ignore the feeling within her. 

"Well how about I take you out for dinner and I can show you how confident I can be." He asked and she just shook her head and walked downstairs to make a coffee instead. She heard him get back to work as she decided to cook something for dinner. 

She smiled at the memory of how confident Y/N was when they first met. She got her bags from the trunk of her car for her mum to burst through the door to greet her with a wide smile on her face. 

"I have missed you so much Zooey." She beamed as she wrapped her arms around her daughter tightly. Zooey had missed her parents as much as she wouldn't admit it. "I am extremely happy to have you home. Your dad will be happy to see you when he's finished work." She spoke as she helped Zooey carry her bags to her old bedroom. She smiled when she noticed that it was still that same as she remembered it. She smiled at the old photos she had of her and her high school friends. It wasn't until she found one of her and Y/N together at a party about to kiss. She felt her heart drop at the guilt she felt for what she did. 

"I have missed it here." She whispered as she placed her bags on the bed ready for her to unpack. 

"Well everyone will be happy to have you home with us. Your friends have missed you." She told her as Zooey started to think of her best friend Nelle. Who she hadn't seen since she cheated on Y/N. A lot of people hated her for that. 

"I don't think they will be happy mum." She told her as she started to unpack her bags. "Everyone hates me for what I did to Y/N." She whispered as her mum shook her head in denial. 

"No they don't hate you. Y/N made sure of it. He told them that it was a lie and you both just went your separate ways." She told her making Zooey's heart swell. Even after what she did, he still defended her. She truly never deserved him. "I am going to start on dinner." 

"How is he?" Zooey asked before her mum could leave the room. 

"He is ok I guess. He really loved you and he has been in multiple short term relationships since but nothing has lasted as long as you." She told me. "I think he could never get over you." She spoke as she walked back inside. "But why did you do it?" She asked her daughter who sighed.

"I was scared mum." She whispered shamefully.

"You were already married, what was there to be scared of?" She asked her as Zooey turned to face her.

"He wanted children and I wasn't ready. I was afraid that he wouldn't want me because of it so I screwed it up for the two of us instead." She told her mother who gave her a sad smile. 

"Well we are all only human and we can't go back and change the past if we wanted to." She spoke before she left the room leaving Zooey with her thoughts. She knows she has to go out and see him around since he has his business here.
