Time Is Limited (Zooey Kern x M!Reader)

Thirteen

Zooey handed him the first bottle which she emptied some of its contents in his hand. He smiled at her as he took in her features. Remembering his love for the last time.

"You kept your promise." He noted before he took the first couple of pills. "You promised you would be by my side until my dying breath."

"I did." She nodded as she watched him take more. "I intend to keep it Y/N. I am not going anywhere."

When he had took the last of them, he lay back as he looked at her with heavy eyes. He could feel the drug coursing through his veins. Slowly attacking his organs. Straining his heart with every beat.

"I forgive you Zooey." He told her as she shook her head. "I do. I forgive you." He smiled tiredly at her as she just watched his face. "Time is limited." He took a laboured breath as the affect of the drug was kicking in. "I do forgive you, and I never stopped loving you. I'm just sorry that this is it for us and I can't give you more."

"You already gave me everything Y/N." She told him as he smiled. "You gave me a love that others can only dream of. You gave me a best friend and a soul mate all in one." She sniffled as she watched his eyes grow heavier. "You gave me a second chance to earn your forgiveness and I never wanted to lose you. I love you so damn much."

She listened for his breath as she lay her head on his chest. She could hear his heartbeating slowly. His breathing soon came to a halt just like his heart.

She couldn't stop the cries coming as she gripped his shirt. Crying into his chest. She remained there hoping that in someway, he would wrap her in his arms but it never happened.

She took his hand in hers and felt as the warmth disappeared from his skin. His touch grew colder. His skin slowly losing colour as the blood was no longer being pumped around his body.

"I'm going to miss you so fucking much." She whispered as she pressed a kiss to his lips one last time before she lay back down.

Time came around for the funeral. All of his friends were there. All celebrating the life he had. Zooey was distraught as she thought she could see him every where she looked. His eyes. His smile. It plagued her mind constantly. She knew she would never love someone else like she did him.

"Hey." She said as she knelt before his grave. The fresh soil piled on, within a few months it will be level and covered in green grass, and a headstone marking the spot with his name on it. "You were right. Time is limited. I just wish we had more time. I just wish that you never had this tumor." She wiped her eyes as she looked up to the sky. "I just know that you are looking down and laughing at me for crying and not celebrating your life. The truth is, I don't want to celebrate anything without you here by my side."

She looked around and watched as their were people visiting their lost loved ones. Leaving flowers on a grave just for them to die.

She always wondered why people do that. The flowers will only last a week if that. But it is because, no matter how beautiful life may seem, it can be short. It shows that every life isn't meaningless. Every life is important whether it was a week or 100 years long. Its important to those who cherished it.

Some people find comfort and clarity in sitting for hours at the graveside, just talking and telling them about their week. Maybe asking for advice or a sign and not really getting an answer back. The comfort of believing that they are still watching over the ones they left behind. Guiding them to be the best versions of themselves.

That is what Y/N was for Zooey. He shown her that life is short. Death can happen at any time. Any age. So Zooey made him one last promise. She was going to travel to the places he always wanted to go with her until it was her time to join him in the other world. Until they were both reunited in another lifetime.

She believed that souls that were meant to be always found each other in another life. They were bound by an invisible tether. Bound for eternity.
