Time Is Limited (Zooey Kern x M!Reader)

Eight

Y/N had another appointment today, another biopsy and scan. Everytime he had these frightened him because he never had anyone. So he was sat in the waiting room for the test results.

He was scared because he had just started to let Zooey back in and it might be too late.

"What's got you so nervous?" Zooey asked him as she moved from her desk.

"Just the usual check up." He replied with a small smile. "These places just make me uncomfortable." He told her honestly because let's face it. Who isn't scared of the Doctors.

"I'm sure everything will be fine." She said as she squeezed his hand. He smiled at her grateful for her presence as it was soothing.

"Y/N Y/L/N." He was called. She gave him one last smile before he went into the doctors office.

"Hey Dr Allan." Y/N greeted the doctor nervously. The doctor wore a sad expression on his face as he held the results. "It's bad news isn't it?" He asked the doctor who just sighed.

"This is the part I hate about this job." He told Y/N as he opened his file and turned to fully face him. "The recent tests show an abnormal cell growth rate. The tumour has grown and is now malignant." Y/N's whole body froze as he heard that. "As you know it is too risky to operate but there are other treatments. There is chemotherapy and radiation."

"Will the treatments help?" Y/N asked him as the doctor just sighed closing his file.

"I am going to be frank with you Y/N. I have known you for years, since you were a kid." He spoke sadly. "There is no certainty that the treatments will work. They may shrink the tumour but that would be it. It wouldn't completely go away but this process can take a long time."

"If I don't have the treatment, how long will I have left?" He asked him as he sighed.

"You will have at most 4 months before the paralysis kicks in and then maybe another 3 months after that." He sighed before he continued. "The treatments are your best chance at life Y/N. They may make you nauseus and tired but they will help in the long run."

"Do you know 100% that they will work?" He asked the doctor.

"There is no certainty when it comes to this Y/N. We try our hardest to battle the mutated cells but there is always some that remain." He told him. "I will make an arrangement for the Lilyan Ward at Grace Hospital for you to start your treatments and based off of your history, chemo is the way to go. So you will need someone with you."

"Thank you doctor." Y/N spoke almost mechanically. He wasn't ready for this. As much as he missed his family he still had his life ahead of him. He was only 33 years old after all.

He walked out of the office and through the doors, not hearing Zooey calling his name. She tried following him but she was still on shift.

Y/N walked to his parents grave and sat there. He was trying to find peace in the days events but he was struggling.

"Hey mum and dad. I know you probably can't hear me and I don't believe in this shit but a lot of people do so I thought I would give it a try." He sighed as he picked at the grass. "I have had this tumour on the base of my neck on my spinal cord. Up until now it has been benign so there was no reason to worry until now." He sighed as he looked up at the sky. "Now it has grown and has became malignant. I uh." He took a shaky breath. "I'm scared. I am so fucking scared. I am not ready to leave this world yet. Zooey has came home after years of her leaving. I know I play a big game of not really caring about her but truthfully, I never stopped loving her." He sucked in a sharp breath. "Even after what she did and now this is happening. I just don't know what to do."

He watched the grave stone before him hoping for an answer to pop out of the ground. Which it never did. He couldn't ask Dave because he is with Tiffany who is friends with Zooey. He had no one who he could trust with it. So he went back home and shut himself off from everyone while he was going to wait for his appointment for Lilyan Ward at Grace Hospital. Something he was nowhere near ready for.
