Chapter 19
Rebekah
My stomach twisted and turned as my heart rate jumped to its peak. Goosebumps spread over my skin as winter was spreading in Laford. The wheels moved and I barely heard them as they drove farther away from my house and the little community we used to live in.
My knees were touching with each other as my hands were buried deep inside them. I glanced outside, never looking back or over my shoulders. My head remained in one position and nothing came uttering out of my throat.
"You're not in a movie, Ciccio. There are no cameras. Turn and look at me." His voice came from behind, alluring and dark and I found my heart quickening at his words.
Swallowing hard, I turned to look at him. His golden eyes pierced into mine effortlessly. He was suited in a black coat, the first few buttons opened, showing his bare chest that I tried not to look at. A chain fell from his neck, a thin golden chain that resembled the color of his eyes.
Mesmerising.
I took another breath. "Do you want something?" I asked, stiffening my shoulders.
"Yes," He pushed his elbow against the car seat and rested his hand underneath his head. "Your attention." When he spoke, it was clear and he was loud even when there was no one around.
There was a barrier between the driver and us that stretched from the roof of the car to the seats. I couldn't see him and nor could he see me. The starlights flickered over me, providing me with a little light. With the tinted windows, I barely could see anything outside but I could feel we were going fast.
"You have my attention." I tried to be sweet, though it wasn't my favorite quality. There were a couple guys I had flings with but that was all in my high-school year.
Asides from Adam, I hadn't dated anyone recently nor ever spoken to a man with such little distance.
"Are you panicking?" He asked, his gaze racing all over me and cornering me.
"No," I scoffed, keeping my pose. "Why would I? It's just one date, probably a few hours and then I'll be rid of you for the rest of my life. I don't need to panic." I spilled out, without a single thought. It was like the words fell on my tongue and before they could register in my head, they came out.
His face changed, eyes suddenly turned dark and misty. For a moment, I felt as if I was going to be attacked by something. "I don't like when you talk to me in such a terribly way." His voice became cruel and it was the same voice I had heard for the first time at the subway station.
"Oh, my lord," I placed my hand over my chest and battled my lashes. "Do you want me to bow to you?" My head lowered a little. A little gasp escaped my throat and I kept up with the act. "Do you want me to kiss your feet?"
His long muscular leg shifted, moving over his lap. He chuckled and then shook his head, "Not tonight."
My lips lined straight, "Never!" I tried to look away but when I did glance at the window, I saw nothing except for my reflection staring back at me. With a huff, I leaned back and folded my arms, waiting for this journey to come to an end.
"Why do you have to be so hard? You're merely just a boring girl and often times, girls like you are on their knees for me, Ciccio." He tried to get my attention with his words but I didn't give in. "You should be lucky that I want you."
My head cocked at his direction. "I'm not a boring girl and I wasn't gifted with knees to submit to a man who has the same worth as me at the end of the day and you—" I stared into his eyes like a hawk. "Should be lucky that I'm sitting here, with you. And I doubt any woman would want to go with such a narcissistic man."
The smile over his face faded before he shifted on his seat and invaded my comfort. Taking in a breath, I moved back, distancing myself away from him. His hands were inches away from coming at me, grabbing me or whatever but he didn't.
Instead, he smiled.
"You—you tempt me." He whispered, shaking his head. "But beware of your words, Rebekah. Don't speak of what you don't know. I'm trying here, I want to like you but if you become hard for me, I'll ruin you in ways that you cannot even imagine. You don't know me. Let's keep it that way." His words were a warning.
The car came to an halt at an unknown residence. I only caught a glimpse of it when he opened the door to his side and stepped out of the car. Swallowing hard, I began realizing the mistake I had made.
What if I had tripped his anger switch? Was he going to kill me?
The door to my side was drawn open and he offered his hand. I hesitated for a few seconds before placing my hand over his cold one. He tightened his fingers and clasped it whilst I managed to step out of the car without falling on my face and striking my jaw against the hard ground underneath me.
When the door closed, the driver drove the car out of the driveway. Too lost in my thoughts, I didn't look at the house in front of me until a few seconds later when I snapped into reality. My head rose and I contained a gasp as my gaze rushed over the awfully big residence that stretched to the sky with acres of bare land and trees surrounded.
Fingers fell over my hair, drawing them over my shoulder before Christopher moved behind me, inching closer. I felt his body heat against mine as he sniffed and took another whiff of my scent. It wasn't anything interesting, just a Victoria Secret perfume that I finally found in Rose's room.
The hair over the back of my neck rose as his head moved, reaching closer to my neck, "I'll be civil tonight and I'll remember my manners, Ciccio, but don't bite me." It was another warning, much more deeper than the last one.
I pressed my lips shut and nodded. It wasn't going to be hard to shut my commentary and insults for a couple of hours even though I wanted to tear this man from the top to the bottom with only—only my words and pepper-spray him once more before taking all his money and fleeing.
Only if.
I sighed and whispered, "I apologize."
"Don't. That's the last thing I want to hear from your mouth." He held my hand tight before dragging me into the unknown residence.
As dark as it was, I kept my eyes wide open as the sound of my heartbeat echoed. My chest vibrated and my breaths came out short. I struggled to walk on the heels and catch up with Christopher who walked ahead of me. His hand was still wrapped around mine and for some reason, it made me nervous.
There was nothing but silence. Everywhere.
I moved my head around, looking for anything or anyone but there was no one. Finally, after a long minute of walking, light appeared. Golden dim lights flickered from the tall ceiling of the residence. Candles were spread all around the area, lightened up.
I held my gasp back again, not appearing surprised at all as Christopher watched my face. My hand parted away from his and I took a seat on the other end of the table that was against a large brick of wall or an indoor waterfall as far as I could tell.
He sat in front of me, still watching—peering me with his golden eyes.
"Very interesting place you got." I said, trying to be pleasant.
"My room is much better."
I rolled my eyes, "I'd rather die."
"Maybe you will." He shrugged while the smile stretched over his face and a dangerous cloud covered his eyes.
