Chapter 25

I held my breath back while my hand motioned to my chest. It was dark inside the room, I barely saw anything until my eyes adjusted to the darkness. My ears remained perked, hearing every step outside of the room. He began approaching closer to the hallway and I quickly turned around, hoping to find an escape before he caught me.

"Who are you?" In the darkness, another pair of golden eyes met with mine and I nearly screamed. "Oh, wait..." He trailed off, stepping closer to me. It took a moment to recognize him in the dark but I soon did.

Then, I scanned the room, it was a bedroom, probably his—Christopher's younger brother. The same man I had encountered at the subway station, who I also pepper-sprayed. Thankfully, he wasn't chasing me like his brother.

"You're his mate, aren't you?"

Huh?

"Please—" My mouth hung wide open as panic collected in my throat. "Don't tell him I'm here. I just want to go home." I pleaded, my voice as low as a whisper knowing Christopher was right outside, shuffling through the hallway and trying to find me.

I didn't know what he wanted from me but it terrified me. This time, I was truly scared. He had kidnapped me from the doorstep of my own house and had forced me here. I was unconscious for hours and had no memory of what had happened.

A knock landed on the door before the younger one replied to me. My heart leaped at the sound of the knock and I quickly shifted against the nearest wall, hiding. Silence fell. It was then I noticed that the younger one had just slipped out of the shower and was only wearing his towel around his waist.

He reached the door, opened it and I dug my teeth into my lower lip, being as quiet as I could be. "Yes, brother?" The younger one asked.

"Have you seen my mate run through these corridors by any chance?" Christopher asked, talking about me. But what was mate? What did he mean by that?

"Nope. I was in the shower." He replied while shrugging his shoulders.

When I turned a little, I could both of their frames near the door. Christopher was taller than his brother, clearly and more dangerous. The way he spoke to his brother showed he was in charge, in control.

"Why? Is she running around here?" His brother said in a teasing tone and I furrowed my brows. He knew I was inside this room yet for some reason, he wanted to know more. "Does she not want you?"

"You're a waste of time, Pietro. Goodnight." Christopher said before slamming the door shut and soon his footsteps faded out of the hallway outside.

I took a sigh of relief and a little smile stretched over my face as the younger one walked back in. "Thank you." I whispered to him, cheerfully.

"No worries. I'd love to see him burn after all he had done with me..." He murmured before walking back into the other door he came out from. "I'll come and attend to your needs in five minutes!" He spoke with a tone that was eager and excited.

After a couple of minutes, he came out of the room all dressed up and his hair dried instead of wet and dripping. "So, tell me, what concerns you? Are you not interested in my brother?" He asked, folding his arms across his chest. "Usually his charms are spectacular but you seem uninterested." He paced around me in circles, questioning me.

God. Not another one.

"He kidnapped me from my own house and he's not letting me go. I want to go back home and I can't with him hunting me!" I exclaimed, a little too exhausted from all the running I had done. He had chased me for a good ten minutes and yet he hadn't stopped.
