- The next day had soon come after that. Except for the new presence of a certain child, everything had flowed like any ordinary day of hiding... or so they thought... It wasn't until Hange returned after having a quick meeting with the Commander of their regiment - brought with them new news for the squad to hear.

"Hange, you're back... How's the meeting?"Hera quickly butted in but was interrupted by Hange's out-of-the-blue announcement.

"Pastor Nick. He's dead." Hange announced without any other statements to lighten the news, "He was tortured and killed by the Military. I knew the Church would have it in for Nick after he agreed to help us. That's why I put him in the barracks with a fake identity. I never expected them to send soldiers to execute him. I was too careless. It's entirely my fault."

"Pashnea, this is outrageous!" Hera exclaimed, her brows furrowing with anger while her gaze held a look of worry and pity for the late Pastor Nick.

Armin gulped before looking up from his drink to look over at the brunette, "Did the Military Police torture Pastor Nick just to find out what he told us?"

"Most likely." Levi spoke, placing down his teacup on the table, "But it was also the Interior Military Police, so there must be more to it." He responded before turning his head towards Hange in question, "So, how many of Nick's nails were torn off?"

"Huh?" Hange's head whipped up to the ravenette with their eyebrows furrowed.

"You saw, right? How many?"

"I only caught a glimpse of him, but from what I could tell, all of them."

Levi stared at them in silence for a short moment before speaking up once again, "People will either spill the beans after one or hold out no matter how many nails you pull." He sighed then looked away, "To be honest, I didn't think much of Pastor Nick. But he stood by his beliefs all the way to the end."
