Retrospect but from a different standpoint ( ^ω^ )

Hasimoto's POV

I glanced at the girl beside me. Tanaka Sei. Our class' princess' right hand and the centrepiece of our class. Although her looks aren't exactly something to die for, her bubbly and lively attitude brings life to the class and there are quite a number of people crushing on her.

However, before going onto the yacht, the princess had pulled me aside.

"Hashimoto, look out for Sei-chan."

"Hmm..? You mean to be concerned about her and to ensure she doesn't do anything stupid? You can be rest assured that she won't do anything of the sort-"

"Not that. Observe her actions carefully."

The princess seems to have some doubt in Tanaka's loyalty to her but I personally felt that there was no need to do so. After all, the princess had Tanaka to watch her back from day 1, why would someone like her betray the princess?

Or so I thought.

But what is it that I'm looking at?

Tanaka Sei, despite being one of the deputy leaders alongside myself, was standing still doing absolutely nothing to control the class even as they erupted into chaos.

Why isn't she doing anything? I watched her movements closely, it was important to look at a person's body language to determine their inner thoughts

Her eyes were cold, not a single ray of light reflected off her green eyes. Although she was biting her lips and her fingers fidgeted endlessly, a sign of anxiety, her eyes were completely emotionless, contradicting her supposed body language. Could she really have betrayed the princess?

At this rate, the Sakayanagi faction would lose our standing.

I turned towards the horde of students squabbling at the top of their lungs. Just as a student raised their fist, Katsuragi's loud bellow resounded. He was back.

Oh sh*t. We're doomed for. The worst case scenario occurred. I was just about to step in to control the situation as it was about to get physical but Katsuragi returned before I had the opportunity to take matters into my hands.

"Tanaka-san, I expected you to keep the class in check. I had higher expectations than this."

"I- I'm sorry."

..? Her voice wavered? That girl? Wasn't she just acting? If she was only just acting she would have pressed it down and acted tough, wouldn't she? Because her image isn't one to break down so easily.

I observed her even more closely. Her eyes. They're slightly teary. Wait, why?

Hais. I can't understand how girls think. I looked at her friends. They seemed to be ready to dash over to her side and comfort her any moment now. Well, I guess she'll be fine.

Hold on..? Two members of her friend group were missing.

I scrutinised the class, scanning through the numerous faces and locating her friends.

Oh found them! But- why are they sitting at Katsuragi's side of the class? Don't tell me they switched factions?

No, they seem to be sitting somewhat in the middle between the two factions along with some other members of the Sakayanagi faction. This was bad. We're losing members and influence.

After Katsuragi's brief elaboration to his plan, he allowed us some time to think.

I glanced over at Tanaka. She was the one who was normally obstructing Katsuragi and his plans but...

That same Tanaka was currently staring out into blank space, she was listening in on the conversation but... it felt as if her soul had gotten sucked out with Katsuragi's earlier remark.

Hais... I feel like I have been sighing a lot. I guess I'll go. But I honestly don't really have much confidence in my debating skills.

[...]

And yup I lost. Splendidly.

Glancing over to the class, those students who were sitting on the fence have now officially joined the Katsuragi faction.

Hais... the princess is going to get mad.

So.. what's up with Tanaka? I need to find out.

[...]

After a light-hearted chat with Tanaka, it seems like she isn't our enemy. She's probably doing stuff like 'looking at the big picture'. I don't have the same amount of information about the cohort as here so I can't really relate with her but...

I can kind of deduce what she plans to do.

Also, she seems to have some kind of heavy burden on her heart. That's no good. That'll affect her performance which will affect the class. I guess I need to give her some kind of support.

Well then, she seems to have done her part, I guess it's time for my time to shine.

Eru:

Hello!!! Okay omg this is my first time writing a change of perspective in this story lol. I did try my best to keep to Sei's pov only but I guess some situations are just inevitable. Some notes for your future reference:

~ while I do intend to have a Hashimoto x Sei dynamic, this story will have 0 romance. No romance. Because I'm bad at writing romance and I think a change in genre would just be too weird

~ I kind of crafted a vision as to how Sei looks like so I scattered hints about how she looks throughout my last few chapters lmao

~ this story will end after Year 1 of the the CoTE LN. I refuse to go beyond that. Honestly, year 2 has so much stuff going on and until now I am still very confused by the island arc for Y2. So yeah, there you go :)
