The shift continued. Most of the team was pretty tired. Liam was exhausted. Delivering a baby in a bathroom, and almost dying to blue fire had drained him of his energy. He was trying to get a few minuted in the bunk area, but the klaxon blared above him."Ladder, Station 19, respond, structural fire."
Liam groaned, shoving his head into the pillow. He then lifted himself from the comfy bed, and jogged to the barn, quickly shoving his turnout's and boots on.
As he was getting ready, he could overhear Andy and Jack smack talking each other. Maya walked past with a proud smile on her face.
"Oh! Listen to that smack-talk." The blonde smiled, "I'm like a proud mama."
Liam chuckled slightly, as the other blonde stood beside him to put her turnouts on.
"Almost reminds me of us giving each other crap." Liam says, adjusting his suspenders.
"Yeah." Maya replies, "Except you were terrible at smack-talk."
Liam frowns, calling after her as she walks away. "Was not!"
"Miller says he's starting a top-floor evacuation." Pruitt says to the team,
"Copy that." Liam and Travis call out.
"Grab some extra tanks for Miller and Warren." Pruitt says to Liam.
"Already packed, sir." Liam responds, Pruitt nodding at him.
Once finished dressing, Liam jumps into to the truck as Maya hops into the driver seat and Andy in the passenger seat.
Soon, they are off, sirens wailing, towards the apartment complex where Dean and Ben were.
...
In the truck, Liam was sat silently in the back. When he looked ahead, he could see Andy and Maya having one headphone off their ear so they could talk, in what they thought was a discreet way. Liam decided to also adjust his head set to see what they were talking about.
"So that stuff back there with Jack," Maya starts, "was that a 'we just got it on in the turnout room' smack talk? Or 'we almost got it on, but got interrupted by the alarm' smack talk? Or 'we're really confused because we're in competition but just drove through blue fire, which was really hot, but we still haven't talked about that engagement ring hanging over our heads yet' sma- Ah, yes. That's the one." Liam could hear the smile in Maya's voice, "See, you can keep Jack a secret from the station, but you can't keep secrets from me. Don't even try."
"Not really a secret. Everyone else is just blind." Liam mumbled. Though, he guesses he was too loud, because Andy's head snapped around to look at him.
"Did you just hear all of that? As in..."
"As in the part of you and Gibson sleeping together?" Liam finished as the brunette trailed off, "I've known about that for months. The engagement ring was a surprise, didn't think Jack was the type of person for commitment." The last part he said more to himself.
