It was a new day, and another shift at the station

It was a new day, and another shift at the station. Actually, it was about an hour before shift would start, but all the same.

Liam had woken up in sweat soaked sheets, the clock reading 5 A.M. Another nightmare. They had become more frequent recently, and would vary in their situations. Sometimes, it was one about a close call that happened on a shift. Other times, it's what could happen, what could always happen, if a call ever went sideways. The people he would lose, the people he would leave behind. And, most frequently, it was of his days in Baghdad. The sandy terrains, waking up to the sound of gunshots, the whirl of helicopter blades, the noises of that day before he was discharged. It always came back to that.

He had decided to forgo getting more sleep, after just lying there for half an hour. He threw the sheets into the wash, changing the bed before leaving his room to get some type of supplement.

He did what he normally did after having a rough night. Cleaned, organised his stuff, worked out to try and tire himself. By the time he was done, shift would begin in 20 minutes. He quickly changed into his uniform, then made his way to the station, managing to beat the bell by 5 minutes.

Andy had officially been promoted, the collar of her shirt now downing lieutenant bars. Liam smiled at her in congratulations as he passed her, making his way to the barn to begin his chores.

He passed by Vic, nodding at her. Vic, however, did a double take at his haggard appearance.

"Woah, dude." She says, looking him over, "You okay?"

"Yeah." Liam nodded quickly, "Didn't get a lot of sleep last night."

Vic hums, eyeing him with suspicion, "Okay. Don't go passing out on us."

Liam laughs light heartedly, "Sure, Hughes."

Liam sets about starting his chores. Grabbing a rag, he begins polishing the engines doors, making sure not to miss a single spot. He playfully flicks the rag in Vic's face who rolls her eyes at him and his antics.

Soon, Andy, Jack and Battalion Chief Frankel walk in.

"Okay, everybody, let's get started! Bring it in." Andy calls out. However, it seems only Maya listens to her as she was the only one to step away from her task. Everybody else continued on with their chore. Maya sends a look Andy's way, as the Latino woman looks around confused and slightly lost on what to do.

"Hey!" Jack calls out, capturing the whole teams attention. He gestures his head to Andy, "Listen up."

The rest of the team stop their tasks. Coming to line up around the Herrera woman.

"Okay." Andy says, "So, today I want us to work on some basics. Air-consumption drills. Let's pair off."

Liam immediately starts to make his way to Dean, the one he would usually go to for these drills as Vic and Travis always paired up. He smirked at the man, Dean nodding back at him. The two of them manage to get pretty good time on these drills so this would be easy.
