It wasn't anything different then how Basil and Mari always pack. Mari always kept the containers to keep leftovers, she didn't like wasting food. Basil would help toss the trash away and rinse items in the lake to put in recycling. It seemed a little tense, though. Mari had a concerned look on her face. "Are you alright, Mari? You look upset." Basil always tries to comfort people whenever he can. "Oh, well.. Nothing much. I'm just, worried about you I guess." she sighed and looked at him. "What?! You don't have anything to worry about, don't worry!" he began to twist his hair around his fingers, he was nervous. He wouldn't say he's okay, but it's not anything to worry about. "Basil.. You're never late to picnics. And you especially don't make it after Kel does. I don't mind if you're busy, but I think you would've told us before. Please tell me, is something wrong?" Basil felt as if all the colour in his body drained out. How do you even reply to that, when you don't even know what's wrong yourself?
He stared at the ground and Mari waited for a second. She looked away and continued packing. "It's okay. I won't pry it out of you, don't worry. I just want to make sure you're okay. We've all been worried. Thank you, Basil."
She started walking away and waved goodbye before she left the groups "secret hiding spot" behind the trees. Basil sat in the grass for a bit. What was wrong? He couldn't think of anything but how he's felt about Sunny. But.. Why would that affect his mood so much? Let alone his daily life.. He thought about Sunny. His smile, his hugs, the music he plays, the cartoons he falls asleep to, and Basil couldn't help but smile. He caught himself with his hands on his cheeks smiling and blushing. He frantically shook his head and realized why he's been acting weird around Sunny. But, he didn't want to admit to it. He got up from the grass, where the picnic blanket was, and began to walk home. It was dark outside, he didn't even notice. He was so caught up thinking about Sunny he didn't realize it was 8:00 P.M, you could barely see the sun in the sky anymore. Basil ran to his house, and stormed into his room. His grandmother was asleep so he had to keep quiet.
Basil flopped onto his bed, so hard his body jumped off the bed a little while he layed there. He stared at the ceiling with his hands intertwined lying on his stomach. He couldn't stop thinking of Sunny. He turned to face his room and noticed the white tulips he has in his window. "Aw.. Sunny." he whispered to himself. Wait, what? Basil quickly sat up, using his arms behind him to sit himself up. "Stop thinking like that! You don't like him like that, he's just your friend, Basil. Don't be silly." He slapped his face a bit as he said this all out loud frantically. Basil turned to his wall, pouting. He felt as if he was angry at Sunny, but he knew he was just mad at himself. Why would Basil develope feelings, and why now? They've known each other for years. He's always been fond over Sunny, they related to each other and always got along. They've been best friends for years. So why now? Nothing has changed. Maybe he only just realized it..?
But, even if he does actually like Sunny that way, he can't do anything about it. He knows Sunny wouldn't reciprocate the feelings. To Basil's knowledge, Sunny had a crush on Aubrey, and Aubrey most likely had a crush on him, too. Sunny always asked to see photos of Aubrey when Basil took photos of him, and I don't blame Aubrey for liking him.. Basil got up from his bed and grabbed his photo album from his bed-side table. He flipped through it just to look at photos of Sunny. He smiled. With the others, of course he was happy to see his friends, but it didn't feel the same as when he looked at Sunny.
