It's been two days since Basil has even stepped foot outside. He was beginning to get more pale, the flowers in his windows were dry, and he just felt drained of everything. He gave up on trying, on everything, on himself.
Aubrey, Kel, Hero, Mari and Sunny still had a picnic. They hoped there was a chance of him coming, but he didn't. They all sat in silence waiting, but Hero began to speak; "This isn't like him at all. Basil doesn't miss out on picnics, he would tell us." Everyone was worried, and they all expressed their concerns. "I know he hasn't been feeling well lately, but-" Mari was cut off by Kel, "Wait, he hasn't been feeling well?! But it's almost his birthday, what's wrong with Basil? Is he okay?" Aubrey snapped at Kel by accident. "Kel! Be careful. There's nothing 'wrong with him', he's just been feeling down.. I think. Just because it's almost his birthday doesn't solve anything." Sunny was about to speak but didn't know what to say. He blamed himself, for whatever reason. He's usually there for Basil but lately he hasn't been talking to Sunny. Is it his fault? Did Sunny do something?
Kel had an idea, "Hey, why don't we visit to see if he's there?" Aubrey added on; "Well, I saw his grandmothers car was at his home. So he's probably home, should we?" Mari smiled at Kel. "That's a good idea, we should check on him." Mari grabbed her picnic basket with the cookies she had baked for today, they were white tulip themed. Hero helped her collect the picnic items they had set up just in case, while Kel and Aubrey began leaving the hide-out already. Hero went along without Mari. "Mari.." Sunny uttered, "You get to talk to Basil while you pack up. Did he say anything..? Is he okay..?" Mari's expression dropped into a very, concerned frown. "Well, the other day I asked how he was. But he said not to worry. But obviously, we're not doing that very well.. Aubrey tried to talk to him about it a couple days ago aswell and he didn't say anything was making him upset specifically.." Sunny looked upset. He didn't know what to say, so he began to walk off to catch up with the rest of the group. Mari sighed and then followed behind him.
Aubrey had to keep Kel from knocking without the rest of the group, she didn't want him to say anything bad if he really was home. While they saw Mari and Sunny catch up, Aubrey finally allowed him to knock. "Baaaaaassiiiiiillll.... Are you hooooomeee~?" Kel shouted, but still in a quiet, worried tone. The other three were behind Aubrey and Kel as they heard someones footsteps. Kel whispered loudly "Oh! It's Basil! I know it!" and both Aubrey and Hero shushed him. Basil creeped the door open and peaked through. It was dark inside and they could only see him because of the light outside. Basil muttered through the crack of the door, "Uhh... W-what are you guys doing here..? It's so early.." Hero nervously laughed, "Uh.. It's 1:00P.M? It's not early." Mari cut in to continue what Hero was saying, "Are you okay? Basil.." Everyone looked concerned. Basil sighed, he didn't know what to do. He didn't want to let them in. His grandmother wasn't feeling well so she'd been sleeping in a lot, and Basil wasn't really dressed to expect guests. He had thrown on a random T-shirt and you could see he had been hurting himself all over his arms. "I'm okay. My grandmother isn't feeling well, I've had to take care of her." While that isn't a lie, he still felt bad for not fully telling them the truth. "Oh, Basil, it's okay. Can we come in?" Aubrey said excitedly, hoping she could hang out with him. Basil tried to make an excuse, he didn't want to see Sunny because, the state he's in be would say something he'd strongly regret any chance he could get. "I'm sorry.. My grandmother is a light-sleeper. I wouldn't want to wake her up. Is there anything else you guys might want..?" His tone came off condescending, but they all knew, or hoped he didn't mean it like that. Sunny stepped forward with Mari's picnic basket. He handed it to Basil. Basil was pale from not going outside, not moving too much or eating, that his checks turned obviously red. He took the basket, and tried to apologize, but it came out more like a yelp in pain. He closed the door and sat against it. Everyone turned to each other worried. "At least he took the basket..?" Kel said, nervously chuckling. Aubrey began to walk to her house in silence, everyone was upset. They could tell Basil wasn't well, but they assumed it was just because he was so worried about his grandmother. But, It was almost his birthday.
Basil opened the picnic basket, he had no motivation to get up and make food for himself. He was going to eat the cookies as fast as he could, but seeing them.. They were white tulips. White tulips.. Are like Sunny. He threw the cookies, they scattered to the kitchen, and reached the living room too. His stomach twisted and turned even more, and his heart began to ache. He held his face and cried into his hands. He began to utter after his sobs, "I... I can't take this..." It sounded more like gibberish, he wasn't even sure if he said anything himself.
