ANTIDOTE

"A letter for the mistress," one of your maids called out on the other side of the door.

You felt the chill air in your room grab at your skin as soon as you got off your bed.

You were only in your undergarments with a light purple see-through nightgown and a pair of slippers made from a bear your father killed two years ago.

Quietly, you opened the door, and rather than make eye contact with the maid who took her time to bring you the letter, you're eyes fell straight onto the decorated silver platter that held a square like envelope with a wax steel that had the crest of a spider lily implanted directly on it.

Without second thought, your lips curved up into a smile and you grabbed the envelope, looking at it earnestly but not opening it.

You thought about everything that he could have told you in this single letter. He knew you didn't love him, yet he continued to mingle with you.

He wouldn't send a letter to you without a reason, so what was it this time? Your stomach grumbled anxiously even though you just ate.

During the whole excitement, you forgot to thank the maid- "Thank you for your work" you whispered under your breath before you closed the door and walked over, resting your back onto your bed as you watched your chest rise and fall with your breathing and covered your eyes shamefully as you imagined his hands pinning you onto the bed in the position you were in.

The whole time your mind faltered off course, you never looked away from the envelope. The urge to just open the letter growing more and more fiercer with every new idea that appeared in your head.

Carefully, your broke the seal and opened the handwritten letter.

Despite your consciousness frowning, your physical features grinned.

He took the time to write you this. Was your original thought, but then you felt your stomach churn. What does he want?

You knew Muzan Kibutsuji wasn't messaging you solely out of love. You knew he was a business man. An opportunist. He only started to meddle with you once you told him that your father was close to the King of the land.

Nevertheless, you read the letter, hearing his voice whisper into your ear with every word you registered.

A Ball? You thought of all the fancy dresses and the rows of food and sophistication.

You hugged the letter tightly and ran out to call the same maid, "help me pick a dress, please!"

_______

"So.. why would Kibutsuji want to invite you to a ball? Surely you told him you don't love him." Your maid asked while she combed your hair, looking at your reflection on the vanity mirror.

"You're right, but we haven't talked much lately." You looked down, deep in thought.

"If you haven't talked much, why would he tell you now?"

You held your tongue, unable to respond to her. You watched silently as she finished styling your hair.

"Be careful of the Sea Jades, my dear" she whispered before she left.

Sea Jades?

You've never been out in the sea to see a real Sea Jade, but you've read stories about them and how the invasive species are beautiful and enchanting, but the fishes toxins can overwhelm you if you touch them and the longer you're near one, the more internal damage it does to your organs and nerves until you die from too much exposure.
