As a student who tackles the subject Pre Calculus, we all know what conic sections are in analytic geometry. Here are a simple recap about conic sections; conic sections or sections of a cone are the curves obtained by the intersection of a plane and cone. There are three major sections of a cone or conic sections: parabola, hyperbola, and ellipse(the circle is a special kind of ellipse). A cone with two identical nappes is used to produce the conic sections. This is an essay that will focus more on ellipse(ellipses), and a certain structure that use one type of conic sections, specifically ellipse.

Earth orbits the sun in a elliptical manner. Similarly, an ellipse exist in conic sections. In mathematics, an ellipse is a plane curve surrounding two focal points, such that for all points on the curve, the sum of the two distances to the focal points is a constant. An ellipse is formed when a cone is intersected by a plane at an angle with respect to its base. It has two focal points. The sum of the two distances to the focal point, for all the points in curve, is always constant.  In Cartesian coordinates the ellipse is to be written as: x² + a² y² = 1.

As someone who is imaginative and a person can't help but be curious on things that I haven't discovered or learned yet, I can not help but wonder what human made structures use the concepts of conic sections, specifically the conic section elipse. An example of a structure that use the concepts of an ellipse in architecture is TYCHO BRAHE PLANETARIUM. The planetarium in Copenhagen, Denmark, is named in Tycho Brahe’s honour. It has interesting geometric components in its design. The shape of the building is a circular cylinder, with its roofline formed by a sloping intersecting plane. The resulting elliptical section demonstrates that the ellipse is a projection of the circle. The ellipse in this building is the roof.

Ellipse are really fascinating, they can be used on both mathematics and on real life to build infrastructures and buildings. Ellipse exist on science too, because like what I said on the second paragraph, Earth revolves around the sun in an elliptical manner. The Cygnus A galaxy, is a galaxy that exhibit an elliptical shape. Ellipse are truly amazing, although the way it is calculated is a bit confusing, still, I couldn't help but be amaze by it's wonder.
