Poverty and how it Affects the Life of Every Filipino

Good morning/afternoon everyone. Today I am gonna talk about one of the most common topic but hard to be eradicated, the poverty here in Philippines. What are the things that pops up in your mind when you heard the word poverty? Is it the lack of money? Lack of supply? Lack of income? Lack of food for everyday basis? Well, that is exactly connected to the word "POVERTY". Poverty is about not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter. However, poverty is more, much more than just not having enough money. Poverty can affect to the development of the economy, or the economical growth of a country. The health of every Filipino might be at risk too, if the rate of poverty wouldn't go any lower. If the percentage of this won't go any lower, every Filipino alive, the current and future generations, may even sink in on poverty more.

How does poverty affect economical growth? When people are poor, they need their income for subsistence. Due to this, they are unable to invest in human capital, physical capital and their own health. As a result, investments in the economy are reduced, resulting in a less productive workforce. Take note that a less productive workforce and lack of investments in the economy can cause for businesses to shut down, and the employees of this businesses will end up unemployed. According to PSA, the number of unemployed persons in August 2022 increased to 2.68 million from 2.60 million in July 2022. Unemployment causes the scarce resource labour to be underemployed since part of the workforce is not being used. Hence production is not at its maximum and thus underemployment of resources would lead to a loss in potential national output. Unemployment would also led to lack of income, and lack of income might cause for people who are unemployed to not have enough money for daily necessities.

And this is where malnutrition would enter the topic. We all know what malnutrition is, but for those who don't, malnutrition refers to deficiencies or excesses in nutrient intake, imbalance of essential nutrients or impaired nutrient utilization. Malnutrition consists of both undernutrition and overweight and obesity, as well as diet-related noncommunicable diseases. Malnutrition (undernutrition) is caused by a lack of nutrients, either as a result of a poor diet or problems absorbing nutrients from food.

Every day, 95 children in the Philippines die from malnutrition. Twenty-seven out of 1,000 Filipino children do not get past their fifth birthday. A third of Filipino children are stunted, or short for their age. Stunting after 2 years of age can be permanent, irreversible and even fatal.

I was feeling a bit pissed of when writing this speech, our teacher just give us an hour to write a fucking speech?! What does she think of us😭 although we're on STEM strand, that doesn't really mean we could just easily write a 500 word speech/essay in just about an hour. Thank fully, she changed the deadline, and the deadline is now, tomorrow morning 👁️💧👄💧👁️ So I didn't sleep that night, and the most outrageous thing happened, when I almost finished writing the whole speech in a yellow paper, water spilled on it 'accidentally' I DONT CARE IF IT IS ACCIDENTAL! IM PISSED OF(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ I ranted all my rant that night to my mom who's by my side watching me write that hellish speech
