He carried me for a while, the sound of the wind blowing through the trees kept my nerves in check. With my face buried into his neck, he smelled of a light cologne that filled my lungs with warmth. I began noticing a faint glow as we approached a new area. He paused and set me down against a wooden structure out of sight.
"I'll be right back, keep quiet." He said before walking off towards the light. I breathed softly, to do my best to do what he asked. I heard voices in the distance, along with Frank's. After a few short minutes, he returned and picked me up again. He walked swiftly and quietly through a large wooden door, and down a dimly lit hallway. The building seemed to be an old log cabin, not quite deteriorated, but on its way. He walked into one final room and quickly shut the door, locking it behind him. He sighed a breath of relief, and gently set me down on a soft bed with grey sheets.
"No one should come in here, I made it pretty damn clear." He said with confidence. I gave him a slight nod, and turned my head, glancing around the room. It looked like a comfy cabin room, much nicer than the outside area made it seem. There were no windows, just a few hanging oil lamps and basic bedroom furniture. He kicked off his shoes by the door, then turned back to me.
"You can make yourself comfortable, unfortunately, you might be here a while. Until I can figure out how to keep you safe." He knelt down and began to untie my shoes, I let him take them off, I was in no state to move my body too much. He placed them next to his, then sat next to me on the bed.
"Are you feeling okay? Are you hurting?" He sounded concerned.
"I'm okay, I'm just a little sore. I feel much better now." I gave him a soft smile.
"You should try and get some sleep, no one can get you in here. I will have to leave for trial at some point so as to not cause suspicion but I have a plan for that." He gave me a thumbs up, which got a small laugh out of me. I feel like I've seen so many aspects of his personality, pieces of himself that he seemed to have forgotten. He pulled the covers back for me. He picked me up in his arms and moved me to the top of the bed. He laid me down against a soft large pillow. It was so nice to feel an actual bed again, I had almost forgotten what it was like to sleep in one. He lay next to me, mostly sitting upright against the headboard. One arm behind his head, and the other around the back of my neck, gently pulling me into him.
"Are you going to sleep too?" I questioned.
"No it's okay, killers don't have sleep if we don't want to. There are lots of weird conditions that come with this realm. Plus, I need to protect you, I'd rather keep an eye out than let anything happen." He said gazing down at me.
"Thank you. For everything." I whispered before fully resting my body on him and the bed. He seemed taken aback but trying not to show it. He pulled me closer, and I closed my eyes to drift off to sleep.
