After all the initiates make it down (with a lot of screaming mind you), Lauren and Four lead us down a narrow tunnel. As I we move down the tunnel, I look around and it's so very different to the brightness of Amity. Instead it's dark and it's only lit at long intervals. Not sure if this was exactly what I was thinking of but I like it nonetheless.
The whole crowd stops with no warning and I try not to swear as I hit the tip of my nose on the person in front of me. In front of us, Lauren, Four and Max stand.
"This is where we divide," Lauren says, "The Dauntless-born initiates are with me. I assume you don't need a tour of the place."
She beckons to them and take them away and most of the group breaks away. We are left with 10 people. Beatrice, Tris sorry, is the only one from Abnegation and I am the only one from Amity. Well, only the more reason to make an impression. By the way, don't take it as a good impression, I never said that.
Four turns to us next. Apparently, he mostly works in the control room but for the next weeks he'll be our instructor. And for the others who don't know, he introduces himself. Well it could hardly be called introducing himself, he just says he's called Four.
Christina perks up, "Four? Like, as in the number?"
"Yes" Four says. His voice is cold, nothing about it seems welcoming. Christina had better be careful because anyone with common sense would know to leave it there.
Four then tells us that we're going to go to this place called the Pit. Apparently we'll learn to love it. Well if it's anything completely different to the Amity compound I'll be pretty happy.
At that, Christina, the little idiot, opened her mouth to mock it. I seriously think that she has a big death wish.
Four did not take this lightly, as per expected. Christina looked thoroughly scared out when he leans over and does that creepy quiet whisper. I find that those whispers are always creepier than screaming.
We move in a pack. In silence. And Christina whispers to Tris and I, saying 'what a jerk'
I don't reply. In the contrary I would've done that too. He literally just said that The Pit is a place that we'd learn to love which means that he loves it. And who wants to see their love mocked? And who wants to see their name mocked too.
We don't talk until Four pushes open a set of double doors and we walk into the Pit. And oh it is the right name for it. It's basically a huge whole. I can't even see the other top. There are openings for food, water, clothes everything. And my favourite thing are the narrow paths and steps. There are no barriers. From far how up can I jump without breaking my neck?
And everything is just so different to the life I've lived for 16 years. The Amity compound was bright and nothing like this underground cavern I just experienced but if there's one thing that's the same, it's the liveliness. People are everywhere and I see now that the Dauntless and the Amity really aren't that different when it came to being alive.
They're shouting, talking, laughing. I smile. This is what I signed up for. This is what I love. Being alive. Being free, free to be whoever you want.
I watch as children sprint down the narrow pathways and envy them. What wouldn't I have given to grow up here. I've spent my whole life being the reckless child who will jump off anything, do all the impossible dares. They all called me a daredevil and rightfully so, as I nearly paralyzed myself once.
This is chaos, but it's good chaos, it's the loud community chaos and it's what I've always wanted.
Four then takes us to this place called the chasm. I'm imagining something like the stream flowing through Amity but bigger and maybe a bit faster. I was not prepared for the huge roar of the water which moves fast, so much more faster than the little stream back in Amity.
