Reading has always been peaceful to Regulus, a place to escape to where people can be whoever the author decides.Regulus had never liked the things that his brother had. The attention, the pranks, the arrogant persona he had put on when he first left for Hogwarts.
They had been quite close as children, their parents had done as much as they possibly could to keep them apart. But at the end of the day, they only had each other. So, they would do everything together, oh how Regulus cried on the day Sirius hugged him before leaving to hop on the Hogwarts express. He had waved erratically at Regulus with a huge grin on his face, while he tried to force a smile back, but the sadness was much larger than he could fake.
"Stop crying Regulus. You are tainting the Black name." His mother's words had straightened his back and wipe his tears, but his childish manner caused his mother to scoff.
Regulus will never forget the promise his brother made before he left. Sirius promised him that nothing would change. He swore that one day they would both get out of that house. Years later Regulus keeps onto that promise. Even though it's too late for that now.
He remembers his first year. He tried so hard to talk to Sirius and to get his attention, but Sirius only ever pushed him away. He only cared about his friends, and it was all Regulus ever heard from his brother. James Potter this James Potter that, so Regulus drew a hard hatred for all of Sirius' friends.
He hated them for taking his brother away from him.
Regulus woke up with a stabbing sensation in his head, his face was pale and eyes a blood-shot red from tiredness. He sat up swinging his legs across the bed, which only made the sharp pain in his head worse. He buried his head into his hand and groaned in pain. As much as he didn't want to go to class today, he knew he had to.
He got ready and headed out of the Slytherin common room and up the stairs to the main corridors. The halls were crowded with hurried kids, as per usual on the first day.
Professor McGonagall was in the middle of all the chaos telling the kids to calm down and giving them the directions.
"Mr. Black," Regulus looked up to find his professor calling his name, "Here's your timetable for this year." She said handing it to him, with a warm smile.
Regulus smiled back politely, taking the piece of parchment. He read through it carefully, but realised something wasn't right, "Professor, this says sixth year potions?"
"Quite right," the older witch nodded.
Regulus furrowed his brows, "But professor I'm only in my fifth year,"
"You have shown excellent progress in your potions work, Regulus. Better than I've ever seen from anyone your age. Your advanced skills are quite impressive, and you always excel to get good grades in exams." McGonagall stated, "So, Professor Dumbledore agreed to have you moved up."
Regulus' eyes widened, slightly, processing what he has been told. It's true, had had always been top of his class. "Thank you, Professor." He said, smiling, before walking away.
"Merlin do they have to—" Remus cuts himself off, grumbling something else that no one could quite catch.
Persephone looks up, first at moony, who is currently staring down at his breakfast in front of him like it just insulted his mother, and then over at Sirius who is devouring Mary's face.
This was normal for Sirius, snogging girls whenever he got the chance, so how was it any different with Mary?
James squints tilting his head slightly. "You think they can breathe like that?"
Remus makes an indignant noise. James looks back at his friend pityingly. Typical of Sirius to go for the bird Remus fancies and then insist of snogging her in front of him on a nearly daily basis.
Just then a red-headed girl comes over to where they were sat. "Hiya Remus, Persephone," she said, smiling.
"Hey Lily, what's up?" Persephone asked, looking up at her and returning the smile.
"Morning Evans," James smirked winking at Lily.
She ignored him, not even glancing his way, "Do you have the book?"
Persephone's eyes beamed, "Yes! I do, here you go."
She replied, passing her friend the book."You're a star, Sephie, thank you." She spoke softly, as she turned on her, walking away.
"What was that about?" James asked, curiously.
Persephone shrugged, "Sorry mate, top secret." She said, jokingly.
There was a pause between all of them for a second which was broken by Persephone. She sighed, getting up, "I'll see you guys later, yeah? I've got potions first."
"You want to get to potions early?" James groaned confused.
"For your information, yes, I do. I happen to like potions."
Persephone walked out the great hall and through the corridors, trying to get to her classroom. She was glad not to have Professor Slughorn this anymore, but a new teacher that had joined this year.
Persephone stepped into the classroom, it hard a dark atmosphere, and was quite different from the rest of the school.
Just as she entered the room, expecting to be alone, she was surprised to see another figure standing in the middle of the darkened room.
