"H-hey...come here. I-I promise I won't hurt you..." The young girl said as she held out a small carrot. She carefully remained still as the rabbit's nose twitched and slowly stuck its head out. The rabbit looked at the carrot and slowly leaned towards it
"I-It's safe. I won't hu-"
"Boo!" A girl said as she approached her. Minna flinched as she dropped the carrot and covered her ears
"Hahaha! You're such a scaredy cat!" The girl said
"Y-you scared i-it away..." Minna said softly
"Hm? What was that? I couldn't hear you" The girl said and Minna looked at her trembling
"Y-you scared t-the rabbit a-away..." Minna said
"Y-you s-scared i-it a-away. You can't talk normal you freak. That rabbit probably left because it's scared-ahh!" The girl exclaimed as she was pushed to the ground
"...leave my sister alone" Another green haired girl said glaring at the girl
"I-I'll tell the Director!" The girl said as she got up and ran away. Minna looked up seeing her sister who held her hand out
"M-maika..." Minna whimpered
"Don't start crying, you little baby. Come on. Let's go inside..." Maika said and Minna held her hand as she got up
"Wh-where's Mara?" Minna asked
"Sleeping like always. I don't get how she can sleep peacefully anywhere. Why do you keep trying to get that rabbit anyways?" Maika asked
"B-because it's cute...a-and it'd b-be nice to h-have a p-pet" Minna said
"It's better if you leave it alone. Besides...how do you plan to take care of it? Where would you put it?" Maika asked
"I-I can take c-care of i-it with the h-help of Miss Hayashi. I'm s-sure she'll a-allow me t-to keep it o-once I'm able to c-catch it" Minna said and Maika patted her head softly
"I'll help you catch it next time then" Maika said
"R-really?" Minna asked as her face lit up
"Yeah" Maika said. The two girls arrived at a tree nearby where they found their third sister asleep
"O-oh...she's really s-sleeping" Minna said and knelt down as she poked her head
"Mara" Maika called out before gently kicking her body. Mara opened her eyes and groaned a bit as she sat up
"I'm awake..." Mara said rubbing her eyes
"Do you not sleep at all or what?" Maika asked
"I get bored easily so I sleep to pass the time..." Mara said and got up stretching her arms out. The girls flinched as they heard the woman calling out to the other kids
"Right on time. Come on" Maika said and her two sisters followed her from behind. The triplets walked inside the small building where the orphans were kept in to be taken care of. Unfortunately, the triplets didn't have such a good experience at the orphanage since they were always mistreated by mostly everyone. Other kids would call them names or mess around with them. It was torture and tiring everyday but lucky for them there was someone who actually did care. Someone who was there for them ever since she met them
"M-miss Hayashi!" Minna said as she ran inside the room where the woman was waiting for them
"Hahaha hey Minna" Hayashi said as she hugged her
"I-I almost c-caught t-the rabbit" Minna said
"Oh you're still not giving up?" Hayashi asked
"Nope" Minna said
"Hehe, well I'm sure you'll catch it someday. Did everything go alright outside? No fights?" Hayashi asked
"No. Everything was fine today..." Maika said rubbing the back of her neck
"That's good to hear. Now let's get ready for bed" Hayashi said
"W-will you r-read us a b-bedtime story?" Minna asked
"Hm? I'll only do it if you girls hurry and get ready for bed. We might be able to get through three books" Hayashi said
"I-I'll go first!" Minna said
"I'm first!" Maika said
"...I'll go last" Mara said. As the night arrived, the building was silent with the children sleeping peacefully inside except for someone who seemed to be struggling to sleep
"Ah! Let go!" Maika exclaimed as she woke up and trembled. She sat up panting heavily and looked around the room seeing nothing. She glanced over at her sisters who were still asleep. Maika covered her face and shut her eyes tightly
I-it...it happened...a-again. Th-that snake...m-monster...
"Maika?" A woman asked as the door opened
"H-huh? Ah...M-miss Hayashi" Maika said and the woman walked in the room quietly
"Hey is everything okay?" Hayashi asked as she walked up to her
"U-uhm...yes. I-I'm okay..." Maika said, looking away. Hayashi looked at the little girl and got closer until she sat next to her
"Was it a nightmare again?" Hayashi asked
"...m-maybe" Maika said and flinched as Hayashi wrapped an arm around her
"You're okay now" Hayashi said and Maika blushed a bit as she felt the warmth of the woman
"Thanks...mom" Maika said and gasped before pulling away
"E-eh?" Hayashi asked and Maika looked away
"N-nothing..." Maika said and Hayashi only gave her a warm smile before stroking her hair softly
"You know...it's alright. You may call me mom..." Hayashi said and Maika's face lit up as she looked over at the woman
"...w-wait really?" Maika asked
"Mhm. After all...I see you and your sisters as my own children" Hayashi said and Maika trembled as tears built up in her eyes
"H-huh?" Hayashi asked as she saw the girl crying
"...d-does this...m-mean you'll a-adopt us?" Maika asked as she cried a bit. Hayashi cupped both her cheeks wiping her tears
"Yes. I've actually been keeping it a secret to surprise you girls" Hayashi said and Maika couldn't stop as she started bursting into tears
"R-really? Y-you want u-us as a f-family?" Maika asked and Hayashi hugged her closely
"You girls have been through so much. Seeing how you three were being mistreated by everyone...I wanted to take you three away from this awful place. I just couldn't stand how the others were treating you when you did nothing wrong. I tried my best to get close but I realized it wasn't going to be easy. That's why I wanted to show you girls that I did care...and...well I couldn't help but feel like we were a family as we spent more time together. I've spoken with the Director to let me adopt you girls" Hayashi said and Maika buried her face against her chest. She let out whimpers and cuddled against the woman
I-I can't believe it...w-we will finally be a happy family...
