"You stupid brat! You're the one stealing my shit!" The butcher exclaimed as the pink haired boy ran away with a piece of meat. He ran past the people in the town and left as he headed towards the forest. On his way their, he met up with the girl who was waiting for him
"Keiji!" The light pink haired girl said as she smiled brightly
"Hey Risako. I finally caught something big" Keiji said as he smiled
"Yeah! Come on! I'm hungry" Risako said as she grabbed his shirt
"Alright alright" Keiji said. The two kids walked into the forest heading back to their shelter. In a few minutes, they arrived at their old abandoned shed.
"Alright. Sit down and let me start the fire" Keiji said
"Okay" Risako said as she walked inside the shed. Keiji set the meat aside before starting the fire. After some time, the fire was good to go and started to cook the meat. The sun started setting while the kids were sitting down near the fire
"We're lucky to have stolen meat this time instead of something small" Keiji said as he smiled
"Can we get something sweet tomorrow?" Risako asked
"You want sweets? Well that'll be easy to get but you'll have to wait tomorrow" Keiji said
"Okay" Risako said. Keiji lifted his head up looking around as he heard a few noises nearby. Keiji got up and rushed over to the shed before holding out the blade
"Hm? Wh-what is it?" Risako asked as she looked around
"I'm not sure. Stay inside..." Keiji said as he walked forward. He struggled to see since it was night and the fire didn't help that much to see far
"Who's there?" Keiji asked. The rustling got closer and he noticed one of the bushes nearby.
"I-I don't want to fight!" A girl's voice was heard and Keiji slowly loosened his grip on the handle
"Show yourself" Keiji said and Emi revealed herself to the young boy. Keiji looked slightly surprised at the bandages that Emi had and noticed three other small girls behind her
Huh? Elves?
"Brother?" Risako asked as she poked her head out
"It's fine. They don't seem...dangerous. Who are you?" Keiji asked
"I'm...Emi. These are my sisters Rina, Iris, and Elina" Emi said
"Why are you out here in the woods?" Keiji asked
"We ran away..." Emi said looked down as she rubbed her arm
"I see. Uhm...well it's getting dark and you probably won't find another place to stay so...you can stay here for now if you want" Keiji said
"R-really? Uh...well thank you so much" Emi said
"Have a seat" Keiji said and Emi patted her sisters heads softly
"It's okay. It's safe" Emi said and the three girls walked towards the fire as they took a seat on the logs. Emi noticed the little girl by the shed and Risako stepped out staring at their new guests. She looked at them before taking a closer look at them
"Don't mind her. This is her first time meeting other people..." Keiji said
"Are you a human?" Risako asked
"Risako..." Keiji said
"A-ah me? U-uhm...well...I may look human but I'm not normal" Emi said
I mean...normal humans wouldn't have crystals coming out of their bodies. And I don't think we're normal if we came from that lab...
"Ah so you're kinda like us?" Risako asked as fox ears popped out of her head
"Eh?" Emi asked looking slightly surprised
"Sit down and don't bother them, Risako" Keiji said
"I'm only curious about them" Risako said and walked away to sit down by her brother
"Hey...did you run away from home or something?" Keiji asked
"We were being mistreated by the lady who took care of us. So...I escaped that place to get away from her" Emi said
"So you don't have parents?" Risako asked and Keiji grabbed her
"Zip it" Keiji said
"Don't worry about it. It's fine" Emi said as she smiled
"Have any of you eaten?" Keiji asked
"I packed a few things before leaving. So we've only had small snacks. There's some canned food as well just in case" Emi said as she opened the bag
"I'll help you with the canned food. We can share" Keiji said
"R-really?" Emi asked
"Yeah. I don't mind" Keiji said
"U-uhm thanks" Emi said. The air started filling up with a delicious scent as the food was cooking. Suddenly a rabbit came out of the bushes running around and a girl came out chasing after it
"Gotcha!" The girl said as she tried tackling it but missed. The young girl whimpered and shook her head before looking up
"Eh? EEK!" Minna whimpered before backing up
"U-uh...are you okay?" Emi asked
"A-ah uh...o-oh uhm...I-I...u-uh...ahhh!" Minna ran off
"Hey care-" Keiji paused as the girl got smacked right in the face by the tree nearby
"...oh boy" Keiji groaned
"Ouch" Risako said
"I-is she alright?" Emi asked as she got up and walked up to the girl
"That sounded like it hurt" Keiji said. The two walked up to the girl and looked at her checking for wounds
"Huh...she's surprisingly alright?" Emi said
"Except for the bump on her head. I'll put her somewhere more comfortable" Keiji said and picked her up before taking her inside the shed
"Is she okay?" Risako asked
"She is probably unconscious. I don't see any blood anywhere...even though that was a hard hit. We'll let her rest so be quiet" Keiji said and set her down on the mattress they had.
