-Will's Perspective-
Even though that wasn't exactly how I wished for things to go... I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
Sure, Jane might literally hate me and route for my downfall...but at least I don't have to sit by the sidelines and help like some type of comedic relief gay best friend.
And I hope... that someday... Jane will see that what I did was for the best. Not to be her rival. But to be perfectly honest about my feelings as well.
I'm so glad that Mom told me to go for it. Things might suck for a while... a long while...but... I'm happy. That's what matters.
Mrs. K was right too! I can't rely on motivation. I have to see the positives instead of the negatives! I'll win Mike back over. I just know it.
I slowly sneaked into class and Mrs. K and I locked eyes. "Nice of you to finally join us..."
The whole class shifted their eyes between Jane and I as if we were doing something scandalous when all we did was talk and be late to class.
"Sorry m'am... won't happen again."
"Alright! Flutes! What does measure 15 say for dynamics?" Mrs K said while pointing at the music on her stand.
"Uh...fortissimo?" Nancy blurted out with an awkward smile.
"Exactly! So stop playing pianissimo PLEASE!"
The class busted out in snickers before Mrs. K shot a squint at the other sections "I have critiques for every section I don't see why you're laughing"
God she's scary...
-time jump to after class-
Everyone was packing up their instruments after the final bell had rung. I did the same with mine as I felt a presence behind me.
As I slowly turned around, I saw that it was Mrs. K. I sent her an awkward smile as our eyes locked on each other's.
"I'm glad you came today...I was worried you wouldn't show again."
"Oh... I plan on always being here from now on...I'm sorry for not being there that one time...that was unlike me."
Mrs. K's face softened slightly before she let out a big sigh. "I hate to reward you when you were late but...I've been thinking about you recently."
"You...have?" I felt my heart clench slightly "am I in trouble?"
"No no... far from it. I uh..." she slowly started to rummage through her pocket before the object in her hand shone in my eyes. "My son's had this backup phone for a few years now...and I uh...I know you don't have a phone...so I...payed for the line for you to use it."
My eyes widened as I looked at the old phone. It was a few generations behind...but I had never had a phone before...she...really did that for me? "Are you being serious?"
"Oh god...it's weird isn't it? I'm not trying to make you a charity case...far from it. I just...want Mike to be able to contact you about your lessons. You can use it for more than that...I mean you're a teenager. It's expected."
I felt my eyes start to water and I brought her in for a hug. "Thank you thank you thank you! You're one of the best teachers I've ever had!"
