Chapter 14
You Will Be ClaimedMy hair swayed in the wind as the cold air licked at my white skin. I held the locket firmly in my grip and closed my eyes. The familiar sound of soft humming rang in my ears as I started to tremble. I let go of the locket and put out my arms to quickly balance myself so I don't fall. The trembling stopped. The humming stopped. I slowly opened my eyes revealing the new world at a different angle. I looked down to see my paws imbedded in the snow, my fur slightly waving in the slow breeze of the wind. But there was something different. The fur.
My fur was different, it was grey. It felt....Wrong somehow......Although I have never really seen my fur at all. This wasn't right. I lifted my head from my gaze. I wasn't outside anymore, but instead I was in a room full of mirrors. I had shifted back into my human self.....That felt so normal to say.....Why? I was human.
And thats all I was.
All I am.
But I still don't understand.
All of this feels so natural.
So normal.
It doesn't matter, it's not who I am. I am a girl. Not a wolf. I am what I have always been. And that will never change."Jersey?" I heard a calm voice say,"Jersey, are you ok?"
I started to open my eyes, feeling my pupils enlarge and try to take in all the light it could swallow. I saw the man hovering over me, I quickly sat up bumping my forehead into his. I brought my hand up to my it trying to soothe my now throbbing head. Once it felt better I snapped back to reality and scooted backwards away from the man and scrambled to my feet.
"No," I said plainly still shaking all over,"because your supposed to be dead"
The room was silent for a while as his face switched off between surprised and confused he finally asked,
"What?"
I lifted an eyebrow at his answer.
"You were supposed to be dead. That's what mom told me."
His eyes widened and his mouth agape. He stood up, hurried to the door, and he ran out slamming the door behind him.
I froze.
What was I supposed to do now? I just found out my father isn't actually dead, and to top it all off that he's a wolf!
As if it heard the word a large black wolf came around the corner and stood just a few feet in front of me. I ran my eyes across its muscular black body as it stares at me.
"You will be claimed,"
A low voice said in my head, as a shiver ran up my spine. I turned around checking to make sure no one was there only to find that when I turned back around to face the wolf he was gone.
I slowly walked over to sit on the couch still watching my back. I looked down to see the locket dangling on my neck were its been for days. I decided that I wouldn't bother taking it off because I knew it would just show up a half hour later anyways. I didn't want to open it. I wouldn't understand anyways. I have absolutely no idea what is happening to me. I should say what has happened to me. Why did mom say my father was dead? If he had been with me I would know what is going on, I would know what to expect.
"Uggghhh!" I stomped my foot on the ground like a little kid having a temper tantrum.
They both lied. Why would someone lie about something like that? A rush of anger flooded through me. I could feel it, feel it pumping in my veins, swimming through my blood stream. And it wasn't going to go away. Ever. It will always be there, this is something I physically won't be able to let go of. The silver chain and charm around my throat burned. I could feel it scorching my skin. The smooth outline leaving dark blood red marks on my neck. It felt like someone was writing on me with a needle. I could feel a sharp end forming letters, forming words, then forming sentences. I looked down and grabbed the necklace and tore it off my neck leaving burns and blisters on my hand. Carved into my collar bone were the words,
WE WILL LEAVE MARKS, and
THERE IS NO ESCAPE.
My fingers gently grazed the red flesh around it and I squealed in pain. I noticed when the locket hit the ground it opened. I looked down, my fists still clenched in pain, and the picture in the locket was of the black wolf. I stared at it. He did this to me. Somehow I know he did.
