It's your first year at Hogwarts. When your letter arrived in the mail, you thought it was a joke that your brother was pulling on you, but when the witch showed up at your house, you knew it wasn't. Butterflies fluttered in your stomach as you approached the train station. You double-checked your ticket.
Platform 9 ¾ ... You spent 15 minutes looking for it, but you were just as lost as before. You were about to start crying in the middle of the station for everyone to see, but suddenly, a light hand brushed your shoulder. You slowly turn around and find a young girl, maybe a bit older than you, looking at you, her eyes full of worry.
"Are you lost?" she asks.
"Um," you sniffle, "Do you know where platform 9 ¾ is? I've been looking for it for 15 minutes and I can't find it, I don't know where I'm going, and I don't want to miss my train."
She took your ticket from your hand and looked down at it. Then, leads you over to one of the brick walls.
"Follow me," she says, amusement dancing in her eyes.
You stare at her blankly as she passes your ticket back and then disappears through the brick wall.
You gawk at the brick wall in disbelief. What just happened? You ask yourself in disbelief.
Suddenly, the girl appears through the brick wall again. She offers her hand for you to take. Together, she leads you through the brick wall, you squeeze your eyes shut, preparing to walk right into the wall, but you don't feel anything.
Sounds of laughter and loud chatter fill your ears; you tentatively open your eyes and find yourself in the middle of a magical platform, with owls soaring above you. A big train is stopped just ahead, steam coming from the chimney.
You gasp out loud, and the girl laughs. "I take it you're a muggle born, then?"
You gulp nervously as you look down shyly, "Um, what's that?"
"It means your parents aren't magic," she tells you.
You blush, "Oh, yeah, I am."
She nods understandingly before leading you over to the train. The train whistles, and the girl glances down at her watch. "It's about to leave. You should get on," she suggests.
Before she disappears into the crowd, she turns back to you, "I'm Cho by the way. Cho Chang," she says and offers you her hand. You tentatively take it and shake her hand gently.
"Y/n y/l/n," you answer.
She gives you a friendly smile. Then, without another word, she steps up on the train and gets lost in the flurry of kids walking around.
You take her advice and anxiously step foot on the train. You see students running towards the window, waving one last time at their parents.
You make your way through the train looking for a place to sit; just as you find an empty compartment, a short blond boy shoves you out of the way, and bursts into the compartment, two other boys trailing in his wake. He turns around and glares at you. "Leave; this our compartment, not yours."
Silently, you back away and continue down the hall, anger boiling in your stomach, you knew how your parents would deal with people like him, but you quickly push that thought away; you want to be better than that. This could be your chance to have a fresh start and you didn't want to blow it.
