I frowned at the Doctor as I backed away, suddenly bars appeared from nowhere, blocking our only way out. A dark spirit floated over from behind the bars, "The ceremony will begin soon."
"What are you talking about?!"
I sat on the dusty ground and folded my arms, "Apparently we're getting married."
He looked uneasy, "What?! But I-"
"I know." I uttered, his words still pierced through me, but I slowly came to terms with the situation.
He stared out helplessly as he attempted to sonic the bars, it appeared to be a force field.
"So where is your new companion?" I finally spoke up.
He looked back at me, "Ah I had a feeling you knew."
"Did you propose to her too?"
He slumped onto the ground, "No. I dropped her off. I met her when we-"
I averted my eyes, "Were together? If you didn't want to be with me, you should have said."
"I'm sorry, everything happened so quickly. I don't usually propose to humans."
"Wow." I laughed bitterly, "Poor you."
"I'm not good at this... I shouldn't of got Neil involved now he's in danger."
My eyes widened, "Neil? Where are they taking him?"
"They're going to sacrifice him. It's part of the ritual."
My heart throbbed, "No they can't! Why?!"
The Doctor gazed up through the bars, "To feed off someone's darkest thoughts, while a doomed marriage is taking place under a full moon. So that the spirits can rise and become more powerful."
I stood up, "To take over the universe... Got it." I told him, "We will have to go along with it. Since this wedding isn't what either of us want... It's the only way to save Neil."
"Why do you care about him?" The Doctor asked.
I blushed, "What?"
He gave me a serious look, I took a deep breath, "He actually cared enough to tell me the truth. That's why."
The dark spirit returned, lifting us out of the hole, "It's time."
We stood under the full moon, while Neil was unconscious and chained inside a dark transparent square, whilst an arena of faceless ghostly spirits watched on.
"Neil!" I shouted up to him.
"It's no use. He can't hear us, I didn't think they would affect him so much. How did you escape?" The Doctor wondered.
"I fought back. I didn't believe a word it said in the end."
I stared at Neil, black smoke riddled the cage walls of his mind.
"There must be something we can do."
The Doctor pulled out his sonic, "I might be able to sync Neil's brain waves with yours for a few minutes. I'll distract these guys."
"And how would that help?"
He shrugged, "You're good at talking."
I touched his shoulder, "I think that's a compliment. Anyway, thanks."
He smiled sadly before switching on his sonic screwdriver, catching me in his arms as my consciousness left my body.
He joked to the unimpressed spirits, they wailed in anger. "I think she had too much to drink...To ya know, settle those wedding nerve jitters!"
