School was testing her patience. More specifically, Alya was testing her patience. Sunday afternoon, it seemed like her life had been completely flipped upside down in merely two days. Five of her peers were madly in lust with her, Hawkmoth was defeated, and she knew Chat Noir's identity. But returning to school made her feel like nothing had changed at all. Alya was standing before her, enraged by one imagined offense or another.
"You never explained what happened Saturday? I still want to know what you did to our classmates!" Her finger jabbed the air annoying close to Marinette's face. Marinette was in a more sour mood than usual. She thought she should be elated, over the moon, but everything felt wrong. Her mother was injured, so that was nothing to be grateful for. Without Hawkmoth threatening her city, she felt like her days would cease to be meaningful. And Adrien... She still couldn't believe the whole time she'd been rejecting the person she was in love with. She also couldn't believe she might -very likely- be developing feelings for Chloe.
Fading marks from Chloe's flyswatter still remained on Alya's indignant face. Marinette rolled her eyes, not really listening to anything her ex-best friend said.
"What are you doing, Alya?"
Marinette jolted upright at the sound of Chloe's voice. After rushing her parents to the emergency room and ensuring they were cared for, Chloe had returned to Marinette to help her hand over Hawkmoth to the police. Once that was over with, they returned to the hospital and waited for Sabine to be released. Marinette's nerves were seriously wrought then, but now she was just exhausted.
"I'm interrogating this creep," Alya announced. "She won't tell me what she did to Lila."
"Gosh, you're so annoying," Chloe sighed dramatically. She slid onto the desk, leaning back, unafraid of any reprimanding she might receive from the teacher.
"At least say something!" Alya huffed.
Just then, the door opened and Adrien entered, Felix behind him. By the time Marinette had returned home, he'd been gone. Felix filed in behind him and they both tried their very best not to look in the direction of the chairs where Marinette was sitting. They focused on Ms. Bustier instead.
"Ms. Bustier," Adrien said, his voice strained. He could sense Marinette's presence in the room. "Is it okay if Felix sits in on our class today? He doesn't want to be sitting at home."
"That's fine, Adrien. Go take a seat. Felix can sit with you."
The two boys turned around and froze simultaneously. Their eyes landed on Marinette, who was sitting with a rather irritated look on her face. She still refused to speak to Alya, was continued to pester her, obviously not taking the hint. Neither could control themselves and went running to Marinette.
"Boys!" It was the harshest they'd ever heard Ms. Bustier speak. "Get off Marinette! Keep your hands to yourselves! This is school!"
Her words fell on deaf ears and the situation only intensified when Lila entered the room and also fell victim to Marinette's allure. Soon Kagami was there and all four of them were practically devouring poor Marinette.
"See! You did something to them, creep!" Alya yelled, pointing an accusing finger.
"Get off me!" Marinette shouted, trying to pull away. She could turn into Ladybug and whack them all with her yo-yo. She could do it easily and freely now that Hawkmoth was gone. There would be no consequences.
People rushed to her aid, although helping her wasn't really their intentions. They pulled the four off her and dragged them to opposite corner of the room.
"Sorry, Marinette," Adrien apologized with a sheepish grin. "I'm really not trying to make you uncomfortable." She scowled and didn't reply. But then she reminded herself she couldn't be angry with him. This was more her fault than his. Her expression softened and she said, "It's okay. I know."
"I have an idea," Chloe announced triumphantly, hopping of the desk. All eyes turned on hers, although four pairs continued to return to Marinette. "What if the key to getting rid of this... thing is just to have them kiss someone else. Kagami and Adrien are dating, anyway. Kiss each other."
"I... don't want to," Kagami replied with blunt honesty.
Adrien would have been saddened by this comment, but he could return the feeling. "Can't we just kiss Marinette?"
Chloe's arms folded across her chest. "Nope, kiss Kagami."
"But-"
"If you don't cooperate, I'm gonna pull out the flyswatter," she threatened. She didn't have the flyswatter, put that wasn't important. "Marinette, duck under the desk so they'll stop staring at you." She only followed the command because deemed it better than feeling their unwavering gazes boring into her. That and she really wanted Chloe's plan to work.
Kagami and Adrien slowly approached one another. With wrinkled noses, they brought their lips together. Then the kiss deepened, and they were kissing like a true couple.
"Come out now."
Marinette stood up. Neither Adrien nor Chloe reacted. "How do you feel?" Chloe asked, searching them with her eyes.
Kagami shrugged. "Nothing. Nothing at all." While she spoke, Felix and Lila were clenching their fists and trying their best not to move to Marinette. Chloe noticed and commanded they kiss.
"You want this curse to break or not?" Chloe retorted when they refused.
So, reluctantly, the complied. When they pulled back and stared at Marinette, nothing happened. They were free.
The class resumed shakily, everyone inquiring as to what on earth was happening and receiving very vague answers. Ms. Bustier did her best to calm everyone down.
At lunch, Marinette tugged on Chloe's sleeve, causing her to pause.
"Chloe, what about Luka? Who can he kiss?"
Chloe thought for a moment. "I don't know."
"And... what about us?"
Chloe stopped fully, turning around and smiling. "I'll let you decide, Marinette. What do you think? Should we be friends... or something more?" She took her hand, intertwining their fingers, and slowly led her into the bathroom. Inside, their lips met and the contact inspired more emotions inside Marinette than the touch of anyone else.
"More," she decided. "We're something more because you're not just a friend."
