May burried her head into her hands furiously. She ran her fingers through her hair. She had pulled her bandana off, and tears streamed down her cheeks. She was upset — extremely upset. During the kanto grand festival she had beaten her rival. The one that she had never won from, the one that she just couldn't beat before.
Except.. this time she did win. She had gotten too confident by the win against Drew that she thought she could get by Solidad effortlessly. But she couldn't. Solidad was better, better than her, better than drew. Just like Drew had mentioned, she was a pro. He always talked so high of her ever since she had met Solidad. She was a worthy rival, really. yet...
Why was she so upset? Back in hoenn, after being defeated by Drew during the grand festival, she didn't cry. She felt proudest of herself, prouder than she had ever been. Then why did she have to cry this time? Was it because of Solidad, of was it because she had gotten so confident and reckless? She couldn't really tell and that boiled her blood.
She sobbed quietly. She was sitting outside, on some grass, and infront of her there was quite some sand and eventually up ahead water. It were like dunes. She lift her head up, glaring back at the stars. The sky was clear, which she wasn't particularly used to. Max, Brock and Ash were back at the contest halls. May had mentioned she wanted some time alone.
She remembered how she sobbed into her friends arms when she had hugged them. The words of her friends kept lingering through her mind. How Max was so happy he had May as his sister, and how Brock and Ash had told her how proud they were of her. She let out a pout. She tried such her best to win. For herself and for her friends who had supported her all of the way.
She perked up when she heard the grass ruffle. To her surprise Drew, her rival, sat down next to her. Worry was written all over his expression. 'May, don't cry, please,' he muttered under his breath. May gritted her teeth, her eyes tearing up worse than before. She sniffed, more tears streaming down her puffy and red cheeks. Drew huffed in response.
'You were great out there, May. Remember, you beat me! After... so long. You've improved a lot.' He murmured, whilst gently placing his hand on her shoulder as he smiled warmly, yet his eyes still filled with worry. May let out another sob, as if what he said broke her even more. 'Y-You don't get it, Drew!' She cried, dumping her hands in front of her face to prevent him from seeing her facial expression.
Drew tilted his head in confusion. 'What do you mean?' He asked, curling his lips. 'I might've beaten you... but.. y-you lost from me just by a few points!' She sobbed. 'B-Before you always managed to beat me within.. within minutes! I won't ever be as good as you, Drew! I got.. s-so confident after beating you that I didn't realize that there were much tougher opponents out there..' she whimpered.
Drew's gaze softened. He shove a little closer to May and let May rest her head on his shoulder. 'So you've realized what went wrong.' Drew hushed, as he ran his hands through May's hair. 'We all make mistakes. And we learn and continue. May, there's no use in being upset. You've got to move forward,' he added. May's eyes widened, she seemed touched by his advice. Although it wasn't something new.
'But.. I get how you feel and what you mean. You thought you had gotten so strong, especially after beating me. But the thing is, May, that the fact that you've become stronger IS true.' 'But I lost, Drew. I lost from Solidad.' May muttered, one last tear running down his cheek onto Drew's sweatshirt. 'You might have. But look at you. When.. when we first started off, I beat you in a blink. That's when you started off and had to learn a lot.'
'But now.. you see, May, you've improved. So much. That, I will admit, at a certain point, I got so afraid of you catching up. That I wanted to present my pokémon in a better way then I already did. I just couldn't concentrate. That's how much your talent got to me, May.' He chuckled. 'Oh, Drew..' she mumbled.
'Don't give up, May. Just because you had gotten beaten. You can, just like me, Solidad and Harley, improve, and learn a lot more to get better and better.' he grabbed May's hand, holding it gently, from his thoughts, just bringing may comfort. 'But..' May tried. '..May. Don't forget you don't have to do this all alone. You've got your friends, Ash, Brock, and Max, right? All your rivals.. everyone you've met during your journey.'
'And I'll be here for you, too,' he said, placing his lips on May's cheek, giving her a soft peck. He pulled himself up, and turned around, walking off with his hands burried in his pockets. May watched him walk off, surprised, as she ran her fingers over her cheek and the spot she has just kissed her on. She let out a chuckle, drying her tears. 'You're right! I will, Drew! Next time I'll beat you again! And after I won't let my guard down!' She yelled happily.
Oh, only if it weren't for her Rival who, at first was a huge jerk, but how was one of most dear to her.
